Principal's Report

I acknowledge the First People of the Wathaurong, who are the traditional custodians of the land and waters on which I work and live, and pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Curriculum Days

We have two Curriculum Days coming up either side of this long weekend. Friday, March 5, our staff will participate in a Kindergarten to Year 6 Conference that focuses on Student and Staff Wellbeing. Staff will engage with an external consultant, as well as working with the Wellbeing Team that leads schoolwide improvement in this area.

On Tuesday, March 9, staff will be onsite to develop knowledge and practice in Numeracy. Staff will explore student learning data, further develop skills and strategies to ensure that our classroom practices have a high impact on the learning of every student.

We look forward to implementing our learnings on return to school and sharing our work with our families.

Please note: OSHC will be available on these pupil-free days.

Assembly

A very important whole school assembly will take place this Thursday afternoon via WebEx. Our 2021 House Captains, Visual Arts & Performing Arts Leaders will be presented with their badges.

We warmly welcome all of our school community to attend this very important occasion. The assembly will commence at 2:45 pm.

Road Safety

A sincere thankyou to our families for encouraging, and reinforcing, students to use the new school crossings. With construction of our new school in full swing, traffic is becoming congested and parking is becoming increasingly less accessible. We now have a completely supervised and safe pathway to school all the way from Albert Street, so please take advantage of this - there are far more options of drop-off with these new crossings. Unfortunately, we still have a few families not taking advantage of the new crossings and crossing the road on Dundas Street, rather than Dundas Place. Please utilise these crossings and encourage other families to do the same.

Arrival & Dismissal

We continue to follow the routines of arriving at school from 8:45 am and moving straight to class to begin readiness for learning. We are grateful for parent support on this morning structure. The outcome has been that students are more punctual to class and are starting their day in the classroom more organised, more settled and more receptive to learning.

The dismissal and departure routine from the school grounds also remains quite structured. Students are not playing on playgrounds after school and are leaving the school grounds promptly. Our students have responded positively and responsibly to this structure. Enhanced safety of students awaiting collection has been an outcome of this new structure, with an easier line of sight of children waiting without parents and therefore easier supervision. We thank our families for their support.

Playgroup

We have some very keen families ready to connect through Playgroup next term. With Meg Humm stepping aside as Coordinator, we are seeking a partnership/small group of parents willing to take on the organisation and coordination of Playgroup. If you are at all interested in this important role within our school community, which will involve a comprehensive handover, please contact the School Office.

On behalf of all of our staff, I wish our families a happy and safe long weekend.
