Computational & Algorithmic Thinking
Maths Extension Education
As part of the Math extension education programs students in Yr 5 and 6 (upper primary) are invited to compete in the Computational and Algorithmic Thinking (CAT) competition at St John’s. It is a one-hour problem-solving competition which seeks to identify computer programming potential.
Some questions test the ability to accurately perform procedures, others require logical thought, while the more challenging problems require the identification and application of algorithms. In the weeks leading up to the competition the students will be given opportunity to practice on trial material.
Students wishing to enter the competition, need to place $4.00 (competition entry fee) in an envelope with your name, and the title – CAT - Computation & Algorithmic Thinking Competition, on the front of the envelope and return it to the school office by 5 March.
The competition will be held during school hours between the 23 and 25 March.
Further information can be found at https://www.amt.edu.au/cat-competition or if you have any queries don’t hesitate to chat with me.

District Swimming
Congratulations to the students who represented St John's at the District Swimming Carnival last week. We were very proud of all of our students who participated. Special congratulations to Bartek went through to Division Swimming Carnival this morning and came third in backstroke.
Twilight Sports
Thank you to the parents who offered to assist with the twilight sports, making the afternoon enjoyable and fun for all.
Assembly
We have moved assemblies this term to 2:50pm every second Monday afternoon. This was to ensure the Literacy teaching block was not interrupted and students had a settled morning. As parents are not able to come to assemblies yet, due to density limits, we thought it would be a good time to trial the new time. We will keep you informed whether we change the time permanently or not.
Produce For Sale
Students have been busy collecting tomatoes, pumpkins and capsicums from our vegetable garden and will continue to sell them after school.
