In our Year 8 and Year 11 classrooms
Year 8
As we pass the half way point for the term, Miss Cupac, Mr Wilcox and I continue to be impressed by the way Year 8 students are progressing. The work that is happening in the classroom is fantastic and it is great to see so many students participating and achieving great success in the many extra-curricular activities that have been taking place.
At our fortnightly year assemblies, we have been keeping a close eye on our top CHAMP point recipients. We will be issuing some special awards and prizes each term to celebrate the achievements of our grade in this area. CHAMP points are awards to students who demonstrate commitment to our FOCUS values of being Respectful, Responsible and Successful learners. Congratulations to our top CHAMPs so far and keep up the great effort!

Year 11
Year 11 are now well and truly settled into their preparation for the HSC and will very soon be completing their first assessment tasks for most of their subjects. It is important that students plan their time well and begin tasks early. This will ensure that students do not feel the pressure of having to complete multiple tasks in a few days and importantly, will allow time for students to submit drafts and ask their teachers for feedback before submitting their work. This process of seeking and responding to feedback has been proven to lead to great gains in understanding and performance in tasks and can be achieved by simply starting tasks on the day they are received rather than starting tasks just before they are due to be submitted!
Last week at assembly, Mr Evans spoke with Year 11 about setting up a study space at home. Students should have a quiet area in which to work that is free from distractions such as television, siblings, noise and most importantly phones and social media! Students should plan their days so that they can manage their school, work and play and reduce the stress on themselves and those around them! For assistance in creating a study timetable or developing routines, please see Mr Evans.
