Ancient History
Year 11 Ancient History classes enjoyed a day at The University of Sydney's new museum of art, science, history, and ancient cultures – The Chau Chak Wing Museum. We were excited to find out that Cecil Hills High School students were the first school group to go through the guided tour in over 11 months, and the first group to go through the new museum building since it was build in late 2020.
Students thoroughly enjoyed having a hands-on experience of ancient artefacts and learning the provenance of each unique item from a range of ancient civilisations and periods around the world. A favourite part of the day was listening to Mitch's explanations as we walked through the Egyptian mummy and human remains exhibition where students learned about the mummification process, how ancient human remains have been mistreated by museums in the past, and continued ethical issues surrounding their display and treatment, which is the next topic we will be studying in Preliminary Ancient History.
