Positive Learning Habits

Year 10

Students have settled into the academic rigour and demand's of Year 10 very well so far. However, I would encourage students to stay on top of their workload and complete assessment tasks in a timely manner. To do this, students should utilise their school diaries and ensure that they have a plan of attack for home study. Some positive study habits include:

  • Allocate time for study: This might involve a schedule with time set out each week or each afternoon for students to complete homework, assessment tasks and time to go over or revise what they have learned during the day.
  • Have a plan: Prioritise tasks that need to be completed first, any upcoming examinations that you should revise for, and the tasks that will take the longest to complete.
  • Tech free time: Study works best when it is technology-free or when technology is used for educational purposes only, such as conducting research or typing out assessment tasks. Turning technology off also reduces unnecessary distractions.
  • Goal setting: Study time is more productive when students set themselves a goal or an amount of work that should be achieved in each session.
  • Have a designated study space: Students should find a quiet place, where they will not be distracted. Studying in front of the television or in an area that is noisy will make it difficult for students to retain information or remain productive.

Respectful, Responsible, Successful

I have been visiting Year 10 classes frequently to track student progress and to get to know the students.  Thanks to Mr Carrozza and the Year 10 students, for letting me into their lesson  where two Year 10 classes were combined to participate in this awesome Challenge and Initiative lesson.

As a year group, Year 10 has been doing a fantastic job at being Respectful, Responsible, and Successful. They have amassed over 2000 CHAMP points. I have phoned home around 40 parents whose children have had a high number of CHAMP points and I will continue to do this in order to celebrate their successes as the year goes on.
