Opportunities for all students to succeed

I never thought my life could be

Anything but catastrophe

But suddenly I begin to see

A bit of good luck for me

I've got a golden ticket

I've got a golden twinkle in my eye

I've got a golden chance to make my way

And with a golden ticket, it's a golden day

Successful

We are now halfway through Term 1.  In terms of my introductory quote, attending Cecil Hills High School is like having a “golden ticket” for success.  We have highly skilled HSC teachers.  We have been recognised as a centre of excellence in student wellbeing.

Our students achieve excellent results.  We have a wonderfully supportive parent community.  We have outstanding facilities with plans for expansion.

I am very proud to be the Principal of Cecil Hills High School.

COVID Learning Support

The NSW Department of Education has provided schools with funding to employ before-school and after-school tutors to support students who may have been disadvantaged during the lockdown period last year.  We have started to deliver this program to a number of students. We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this program.

360 Degree Virtual Tour

Our new 360 virtual tour is now live and can be accessed from the homepage of our website:

Year 6 Welcome Video

As we were unable to host our usual Year 6 Information Evening due to the pandemic, we have recorded a welcome video for prospective Year 7 (2022) parents:

CHAMP Points

A massive 12,000 CHAMP points have already been issued to students so far this year.  Using the Sentral portal, parents and students are able to view information on:

  • number CHAMPS points received
  • teachers who have issued CHAMP points
  • reasons for receiving CHAMP points

We will provide parents with an overview of the Sentral portal at our next Parent Information Session at 6:30pm on Monday, 3 May 2021.

Assessments

Assessment tasks are being issued in most courses and have not yet been completed.  This means that all students are ‘equal first’ and everyone has an equal chance to show their full potential this year.  When your child receives an assessment task, it is important for them to read it fully, understand what is expected of them and start to map out their plan to tackle the assessment task immediately.

Students experience difficulties when they leave assessment tasks to the last minute and therefore leave no time to talk with their teacher about the task.  All assessment booklets are available online.

Each assessment booklet contains a list of the formal assessment tasks and dates for each year group.  As parents, it is important to help your child stay on track by asking about the task a few weeks before it is due, the week it is due and then the night before it is due.

Reading

One way to encourage reading is to use audiobooks in conjunction with books. For example, this is a free online audiobook reading of ‘Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets’

and ‘The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe'.

Parent Information Sessions

Our first online Parent Information Session for 2021 was held this week and was an enormous success with over 60 parents logging in.  Our next Parent Information Session will be held at 6:30pm on Monday, 3 May 2021.  These sessions are typically 30 minutes.  This will be followed by a short P&C meeting for those who wish to stay online.

I look forward to continuing to work with the staff, students and parents of Cecil Hills High School, the best school in NSW.
