Art Room News

Hello RHPS Artists,

What an awesome few weeks we have had. The quality of artwork produced by every single artists is truly amazing.

Students continue to show a personal best approach to their artwork and there are so many wonderful comments to not only each other, but students are sharing how proud they are of their own art and this is a big step for many of our artists.

The Prep artists have been learning about the primary colours and mixing these to produce secondary colors. The excitement of creating a new colour brings many smiles and each student loved experimenting to create their colour wheel turtle shell. Next we will explore artist and illustrator, Eric Carle and make wonderful seahorse collage artwork.

The Grade 1/2 students had many instructions to follow over the past week, as we continued with our Crocodile puppets. There was cutting, weaving, gluing and folding, just to name a few of the skills required. They all showed persistence and concentration and now we get to add all the extra fun details before we begin our rain makers.

Last week was my last week with our 3-6 students, as they will now take on many amazing challenges with our new Design and Technology teacher, Mr. Taylor, for the rest of term 1. The Grade 3-6 will return to the art room in term 2.

Here are some of Grade 5/6 abstract art pieces inspired by Canadian artist, Sandra Silberzweig. These pieces challenged our artists by using the elements of line, shape, colour and texture. They then learnt about complementary and analogous colour schemes to complete their art using oil pastels. I'm sure you agree, they look fantastic.

Enjoy the week ahead and remember that our Art Captains, Jack and Charley will be running Art Club at lunchtime on Monday's. We hope to see you there!!

Keep Creating,

Mrs. Granger
