Prep News

It was lovely to meet all the Prep families during the Getting To Know You Interviews and learning a little bit more about the Preps! We also finished our Early Years Interviews and have enjoyed having the Preps full time at school (except for the Public Holiday)!  Our Preps attended their first whole school TRIBES learning our school song and getting to know all the students in their Tribes. This is a great support network for the students branching friendships across all of the year levels.   It has been lovely to see the Preps growing in independence and settling into school routines with a smile!

Level 1/2 News

A huge thank you to all of the families who attended the Getting to Know You Interviews. It was lovely to meet so many of you and learn more about your child.

The Level 1/2 students have enjoyed being back into the routine of assemblies, Tribes meetings, specialist subjects, special canteen lunches and of course Clean Up Australia Day last Friday! What a great job they did of enhancing our beautiful school environment.

We can't believe it is nearing the end of an incredibly busy term, we are really impressed with the way the students have adapted and embraced the expectations of learning in Level 1/2. Awesome job everyone, your teachers are all very proud of you.

Thanks for your continued support this term, please enjoy a few photos of the students.

Kind regards

The Level 1/2 Team

Level 3/4 News

It’s been a busy couple of weeks in level 3 and 4. We seem to be enjoying last of the warm weather. Teachers across the school have enjoyed our studies on teaching Writing and implementing practical elements to our lessons. Level 3 and 4 students have been developing their skills in writing persuasive texts. So, beware when your child sees something they want and puts forth a very convincing argument with lots of high modality words. We are continuing to analyze our reading by examining the evidence in the text to make inferences. Their getting pretty good at it too! We are still learning to interpret graphs in Math's remembering to always read titles. On our class visits to the library students have noticed the STEAM equipment being set up. There has definitely been a buzz around the level and they are looking forward to giving it a go. Competition across the level is fierce during level sport where a simple of down ball has now become a battle ground for supremacy.

Level 5/6 News

We have had a very busy and exciting couple of weeks in Level 5/6! Firstly, we would like to say a big thank you to all of the Level 5/6 families who attended our 'Getting to Know You' Interviews. It was a pleasure to meet so many friendly faces and learn more about our wonderful Level 5/6 students.

What's been happening in Level 5/6?

The Grade 5 students attended a Discovery Day at Lilydale Heights College. They got to explore Secondary School areas of English, Maths, Science, Cooking, Photography and Physical Education. Our Grade 5 students brought back exciting projects including their very own lava lamps created in Science, film development from Photography and baked goods made in Cooking. We would like to say a big thank you to Lilydale Heights College for having our Grade 5 students for a morning of fun! Thank you to Mrs Munnecke, Miss Morton and Mrs Kilner for supporting our Grade 5 students on this excursion.

The Grade 6 students attended a Year 6/7 Experience at Lilydale High School. They got to explore exciting areas such as the Reptile House, Steam Worx, Woodworks and Science. We enjoyed a yummy hot dog and potato cake combination thanks to the Lilydale High School's canteen. We would like to say a big thank you to Lilydale High School for having our Grade 6 students for a morning of fun! Thank you to Mrs. Layton, Miss Hodgett, Mrs. Izzard and Mrs. Cornwall for supporting our Grade 6 students on this excursion.

In Reading we have been exploring declarative, imperative, exclamatory and interrogative sentences in the texts that we read, the meaning behind the use of these sentences and how to adjust our reading to suit these sentences.

In Writing we have been developing our own persuasive writing pieces, following TEEL paragraph structuring (topic sentence, elaboration/explanation, evidence/example, linking sentence).

In Math's we have been exploring different multiplication strategies including: Array/Box Method, Lattice Method, Traditional Algorithm, Breaking Apart and Using a Close Ten. We have begun division work this week and continue to explore problem solving on a daily basis.

Homework has begun for Level 5/6 students and they should be focusing on reading five times a week for 20 minutes each time (recording this in their student diary) and completing set tasks on Squizya for personalized Mathematics homework.

We can't believe how quick Term 1 is moving and would like to thank our Level 5/6 families for their continued support throughout the Term.

Kind regards,

The Level 5/6 Team:

Brendan Van Haaster, Emily Murcott, Elyce Munnecke, Mel Layton, Rachel Boyle and Mykaela Hodgett.
