MOORESVILLE

Dear families,

13 and out! Is that a cricket score? No. It’s time for Mary to hang up the boots here.

Thursday, April 1st, 2021 will be my last day at RHPS.

After 35 years of education across 3 Regions, various schools, various roles, international teaching experiences; what lies ahead for 2021? I am looking forward to increasing the time with our Airbnb [Moira Carriagehouse in Healesville] and developing my genealogy business further [#Memory Box Genealogy – find it on FB].

I am not calling it retirement. It's "rewirement".

My highlights at RHPS include:

[and no doubt there are lots more I will remember in the coming years!]

  • Working with wonderful students, staff and community. I’ve seen many student cohorts travel through from P-6. That gives me immense pride. I've worked with amazing staff and have loved the family interactions.
  • Thinkers Extension Groups – DNA, Ancient Civilisations, Weather Change, Forensics, Radio Club, Writer’s Club, Optical Illusions and more.
  • Radio – Broadcasting on YV Community Radio has been a great opportunity for our kids.
  • Flat Stanley Global Studies groups – from Canada to our school and our school to across the world.
  • Flat Travellers during covid with Gr 2s.
  • Introducing eSmart to RHPS through the Alannah and Madeline Foundation as a pilot eSmart school.
  • Kids Hope program - thanks to all our Mentors.
  • Masters - learning spaces research project with our Boorai building.
  • With Terry Spottiswood, creating our RHPS values and particularly S for Support and Care.
  • Tribes leader – building a curriculum around our Tribes process and Agreements.
  • Naming the William Barak centre with our school community.
  • Creating our RHPS Birthday bookmarks.
  • Camps – gosh, so many fun camps and times with our kids in different settings. Not to mention the camp hospital visits [nothing too serious and McDonalds on the way back to camp].
  • 2014 – Teaching in Canada and representing RHPS, our state and national education system [Mary and Adam in Canada on FB].
  • SWB – leading student wellbeing and supporting kids and families, particularly during Covid-19 being the health and wellbeing contact.
  • PSD program – seeing the care and support from other students. We have learnt as much or more from our PSD students than they have potentially learnt from us.
  • Leadership – being Acting Principal at various times, leading different roles and staff. Influencing others has been an honor and a privilege.
  • RHPS 25th and 30th Birthday celebrations.
  • “Room of the red couch”.
  • Mooresville – home of fish and fun and Ms. Moore’s Kids Club.
  • Time Capsule of 2020.
  • And so many more...

After 20 years in education, 5 as a Leading Teacher, 5 more as an Assistant Principal at Badger Creek PS; it was 15 years ago when I started my application for AP at Rolling Hills PS in Argentina where I was teaching for a semester. Typing it on a Spanish configured keyboard was a learning experience! I completed the application in Mexico. I had my interview by phone [unusual for the day] from Eagle, Idaho, in my pjs with lots of snow outside. I was so excited to further my career after being AP at Badger Creek PS for 5 years. 14 years later, with 13 of them at RHPS [and 2014 in Ontario, Canada], it’s goodbye.

I am leaving a legacy of a culture with a focus on community, inclusion and students at our core. I will greatly miss seeing our kids and their families at the school gate each day.

My heart is heavy at the thought of leaving RHPS. I want to say a HUGE thankyou to all of you who have supported my presence at RHPS. It’s been a very big part of my life for the past 13 years [and the extra year I was in Canada].

I've been blessed with an amazing and diverse career in education. It's time for me now!
