What is happening in the library...

The library has been a hive of activity throughout Term 1, and it is fabulous to see students connecting with the library in a way they were unable to do so during much of 2020.

The library staff celebrated International Women’s Day by running a lunchtime Kahoot based around inspirational women. It was terrific to see so many enthusiastic students participating in this fun event. Congratulations go to Rylee Year 12, Charlotte Year 9, and Rebecca Year 7 for coming first, second and third consecutively out of a very large and competitive field.

Students at recess and lunchtime are continuing to enjoy our games and activities and several groups of students are perfecting their finer Chess playing skills. Students are reminded that, with the cooler months ahead of us, the library is open before school, recess, lunchtime and after school until 4:30 Monday to Thursday and 3:30pm on a Friday.

Our school is a proud Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge (VPRC) school, and we encourage all Year 7 and Year 8 students to participate in the challenge as well as many Year 9 and 10 students.

This week, the library staff have begun our wider reading program based around the VPRC. We started with a fun initiative to connect students with targeted novels based around the reading interests of each student in 8C. Individually selected books were given to each student and wrapped as personalised gifts. It was terrific to see the excitement with which the students engaged with the activity and the enthusiastic way students started reading, sharing, and borrowing their novels chosen specifically for each student based around their reading interests.

The library staff recognise the need for a quiet, peaceful place where students can take time out of their busy day during non-class time, and we have created a safe mindfulness area overlooking the greenery of the gardens outside the library. Students are welcome to use this space as a mindfulness area where they can complete quiet mindfulness activities.

We look forward to an exciting Term 2 with many more library activities and programs planned.
