ST PHILIP AND ST JAMES

On Monday of this week the Church celebrated the feast of two of the Apostles: St Philip and St James.

We celebrate them on a combined feast day because, even though they died at different times and in different locations, their bodies were moved and are buried together in the Church of the Twelve Apostles in Rome. They were participants in all the stories about Jesus’ teaching, healing, and his resurrection appearances that we read about in the gospels, which is why we celebrate them in the Easter season.

In Philip and James we see human beings who became foundation stones of the Church. They were an integral part of God’s story. God’s story continues with us – as we too are complicated characters with complicated back stories, good and bad, dark and light, yet quietly working for the common goals of God’s Kingdom.

Philip and James teach us that as ordinary as we may see ourselves, God can use us in the most surprising of ways!

PROJECT COMPASSION

Thanks to everyone who donated to this vital fundraiser. The College raised $3,672 which will be sent to Caritas for their work with the world's poorest and most vulnerable people.

UKRAINIAN REFUGEES

Sacred Heart College is committed to outreach and social justice, following the RNDM Sisters' Charism and values of Compassion and Mission. We want to support those in our community who need assistance.

Over the April school holiday period, Ukrainian families of women and children arrived in Australia as refugees of the war in Europe. Whilst many are relocating along the east coast, a small number of families have arrived in Perth, with approximately 240 families expected to be relocated here.

These families, mostly mothers and their young children, require a variety of support to enable them to relocate themselves in Australia. They require short term accommodation, food, clothing, baby items, toys, toiletries etc.

To help, we are partnering with several local agencies to assist in the care of these families.

Please do not send goods immediately as locations are yet to be decided and an appeal with required items will be put in a future Newsletter.

If you able to assist with the short term accommodation, please contact Mrs Hywood on rhywood@sacredheart.wa.edu.au or 9246 8279.
