Wellbeing

(Heads, Hearts & Hands)

Next term, St Joseph's students will be participating in a new Mindful Kids Melbourne program called Inner Strengths.  During these Wellbeing lessons children will discover their individual Character Strengths profile and how you can use this knowledge to support their own wellbeing. By focusing on our Character Strengths we can better understand ourselves and others around us.

Character Strengths are the positive parts of your personality that impact how you think, feel and behave. Positive Psychologists have identified 24 Character Strengths that everyone has the capacity to express. Research shows that using your character strengths may help you improve your relationships, enhance health and overall wellbeing as well as buffer against, manage and overcome challenging situations.

Here are 3 you should know about character strengths and how they can help all of us to feel good and flourish.

  • Character Strengths help us to move past a negative bias
  • By focusing on strengths doesn’t mean we ignore weaknesses, but look at ways to further develop these traits in a positive way.
  • Character strengths are universal and measurable, we can develop our strengths and help to support our wellbeing over time.

If you would like to discover more about Character Strengths or even discover your own strengths profile head to the VIA Character Strengths site and complete their free survey. You might discover your own inner strengths!
