Prep Term 2 Overview

Prep: Term 2

Welcome back to Term 2. We hope that you enjoyed a well deserved break over Easter with your families. We are looking forward to continuing our learning journey together with renewed energy and excitement. The students need to wear their Winter Uniform this Term. This includes either long pants and long sleeve polo or winter tunic and light blue shirt, navy socks or tights and black school shoes.

Religious Education

Our initial focus in RE for this term is on the Easter story and the appearances of Jesus to his disciples following the Resurrection. In connection with our Inquiry focus ‘Responsibility’ we will be looking at the care of creation and how our actions impact the environment we live in and the creatures in this ecosystem. We will also be reflecting on the teaching of Jesus and how we are all responsible for each other and our actions towards one another.

English

We will be consolidating our reading and writing skills this term, particularly looking at the purpose of entertaining our reader. In Reading, we will compare and contrast books and unpack the author's use of language and its purpose. Students will continue to learn strategies for identifying unknown words when reading, writing and spelling, such as chunking, reading around the word and re-reading.

During Writing, we will deconstruct the elements of a story, including characters, plot, setting and structure. We will then use our knowledge of each element to change stories and the endings, as well as create a short story of our own.

Mathematics

This term we will continue to have a focus on interpreting data for the first week, to connect and build on from last term's learning.

In Number and Algebra we will focus on:

  • counting patterns
  • place value
  • skip counting in 5’s and 10’s
  • addition equations
  • subtraction equations
  • positional language
  • sequencing events.

Inquiry

What responsibilities do we have?

This term in Inquiry we will be looking at the concept of 'Responsibility'. We will discover the responsibilities that we have towards ourselves, others and the community. We shall be specifically focusing on healthy choices and being sunsmart, showing responsibility towards others through responsible pet ownership and how our actions impact others around us and our local environments.

Social and Emotional Learning

In Social and Emotional Learning we will be exploring self management. This includes managing our emotions and identifying positive strengths. Many of the skills taught this term will be generalised social skills to assist with cooperative play and work while at school.

Specialists

Students will continue to have specialist classes on Thursday and Friday (please see timetable below). They are required to wear their sport uniforms on Tuesday and Friday. They will also need to bring in their library bag and books every Friday.
