From the Head of Senior School

Mr Trent Chapman

ANZAC Day

I wish to extend my thanks and congratulations to those students who turned out to represent the school at the ANZAC Day march. As always, your dress and bearing was impeccable, and you were wonderful ambassadors for the school. Many thanks also to all the staff who attended and gave their support on the day.

Strong community and Positive culture

This week I had the honour and pleasure of addressing our students in my first assembly as Head of Senior School. I wish to share some sentiments and highlight some areas of focus for the term ahead.

Kinross Wolaroi is a strong community, built on trust, kindness, and respect. We need to continue to care for each other and support each other, especially as we continue to be affected by the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I believe strongly in the need for everyone in our community to contribute to a positive culture. Everyone must turn up well-prepared and willing to work hard. Everyone has the right to be heard and the responsibility to treat others with dignity. Everybody has the right to be who they are.

Each new term provides students with an opportunity to refocus and renew their goals for what they want to achieve. I encourage our students to adopt a growth mindset. Set challenging goals and look for opportunities to improve.

Discipline and Detentions

As a strong community we can make mistakes, learn from our mistakes and progress. We can also have difficult conversations and work through challenges together. At Kinross Wolaroi we believe in a firm, fair and consistent approach to discipline. A range of strategies are used to model appropriate behaviours and correct challenging behaviours.

When detentions are issued to students, notification is given to students by staff and follow up reminders are issued by Mentors and Head Mentors. Additional reminders are circulated to students through The HUB.

This week students have been reminded that detentions must be completed at the earliest opportunity, within one week of issuing. Failure to attend Tuesday - Friday lunch detentions will result in escalation to Friday after school detentions 3:30pm – 4:30pm. Failure to attend Friday after school detentions will result in escalation to a 3-hour Saturday detention. Times for Saturday detentions will be confirmed during the week prior. Parents and guardians will be notified of detentions being escalated, and we kindly ask for your support in ensuring that our students comply with our discipline system.

My best wishes for the term ahead.
