Year 7

Mrs Kath Czinner

Term 2 is typically a very busy term filled with many activities. Students have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting pursuits. The Cross Country/ Tennis Diocesan meet was on Tuesday with many of our group participating. Soccer trials are also underway. Debating, Drama Club and Chess club continue to meet. Many of our Year 7’s, have participated in the musical life of the school and have sung and played for mass and the Anzac ceremony. Thank you to our O’Connor representatives who joined in the Anzac commenderations.

Thursday this week the official school photos took place. Lovely to see everyone take pride in their appearance, a trait I would like to see on a regular basis. The students look fabulous dressed in the formal winter school uniform. High expectations of uniform standards allows pride to be instilled in our students.

Learning is at the forefront of everything we do. The progress reports were posted on compass last term, similarly we work towards academic reports this semester.  Students are encouraged to strive to work to the best of their ability and work hard to ensure the learning environment is productive. NAPLAN testing will start Week 3.

Looking forward to working with everyone this term.

Year 9

A big welcome back to Term 2 for Year 9, I hope that all students and their families were able to enjoy a much deserved break after a hectic 1st term. As we now enter a new term we are also got a pretty busy schedule ahead of us; week 3 and 4 Naplan testing will be underway for year 9 students, and as they have already had a practice last term with the new online tests, we ask students to be prepared to complete these exams during the timetable set out for them here at school.

Also coming up is the sports carnival which is another great student and school community event and I urge all students to be as involved as they can be in the sports carnival. The carnival weather permitting is set to go ahead at the end of week 4 on the Friday. I look forward to seeing year 9 sporting and athletic skills and abilities, on the day.

I have already reminded the students that this is an academic reporting term, and that they need to working to the best of their ability in classes. I would like to see all students, achieve their best individual results, comments and grades that are reflected in these reports. Keep up the good work year 9.

Mr Mark Fulloon (on behalf of the entire Year 9 PAC Team).

Year 11

Welcome back to Term 2. It is shaping up to be a busy term with this week seeing some of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students attending the Warramalya retreat this week, some of our TAFE/VET students have been attending work placement for subjects such as Primary Industries and selected students participated in Diocesan Cross Country and Tennis. School photos also took place yesterday and it was wonderful to see the vast majority of our students representing the College well in their winter uniforms.

Next week sees our Lasallian Youth Leaders (LYL’s) attending the Year leadership day on Wednesday, which will prepare them to assist at the upcoming junior retreat days. This is a fabulous opportunity for the approximately 35 students who will be attending to develop their leadership skills as we quickly move towards becoming the active Year 12 cohort of 2023! Miss Roache, Miss Bell and Mr Patricks are all looking forward to spending the day watching these students grow.

We have also had a number of students represent the College in a variety of events of late with Logan Dalli and Angela Ryan competing in the NSWCCC Northern Country Trials in the last week of Term 1, with Angela being selected in the Under 16’s Northern Country Football team and a large number of students who participated in local ANZAC ceremonies and marches. It is always wonderful to see the fabulous contribution that our students make to our school and local communities!

With many students having upcoming 17th birthdays, now is a good time to remind families that when students receive their Provisional drivers licence (P Plates), if they would like to drive themselves to school they need to complete a permission slip. These can be collected from the front office and returned to PAC teachers, Miss Bell or Mr Patricks. Thanks to those students who have already done this.

In the coming weeks Year 11 students will receive their first round of senior academic reports. The transition from Year 10 to Year 11 can be a stressful one for some, and the first assessment tasks are always a learning opportunity. We encourage you to take the time to have a conversation with your student regarding their first report, helping them to make realistic learning goals as we move into the second half of Year 11.

Ms Amanda Bell and Mr Frank Patricks (on behalf of the Year 11 PAC team).
