Scouts Victoria: 1st Caroline Springs

On the 1st of December in 2021, the ten Year 9 students who had been participating in the Future Leaders Program with No Bull were given the opportunity to share their knowledge with a group of scouts from 1st Caroline Springs. Representing Scouts Victoria, 1st Caroline Springs is a family-focused scout group that encourages young people's social, physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual development within their local community.

The leaders and No Bull had fun and exciting but informative session prepared for the scouts focused on “Teamwork” and “Communication”. Throughout their training with No Bull, the leaders learned to develop their understanding of Teamwork and honouring leadership. They were encouraged to learn how to work well with their peers, learn how to delegate within a team, point out the team's strengths and weaknesses, and gain practical knowledge centred on defusing conflict. When it came to Communication, the leaders were given the ability to achieve understanding by accurately conveying the team’s needs avoiding potential conflict resulting from miscommunication. They learned basic leadership jargon to use as they continued to develop.

The ten students were split into five groups, with the two leaders acting as mentors to a group of four scouts each. They taught the scouts all about Teamwork and Communication, both with their words and through activities such as tower building with spaghetti and marshmallows and blindfolded drawing where the students had to communicate accurately. After all their hard work, both the leaders and scouts enjoyed a nice dinner together to end the session. Despite all the difficulties throughout the year with the pandemic, every one of the ten leaders from Year 9 continued to persevere and will surely succeed wherever they go in 2022.
