ATHLETICS CARNIVAL REPORT

The 2017 Athletics Carnival was held at Jubilee Park on a beautiful autumn day. Students from all Houses competed with fantastic spirit and the sheer number of competitors who participated in track and field events is to be commended. House pride was on the line and the House Leaders and Captains led the way from the beginning with some very entertaining House Chants, with a win to Kennedy kicking off a day of close competition. After a cool start in the morning, the day and competition heated up. There were some outstanding individual performances at the carnival. 2017 saw 10 athletes breaking 11 individual records, whilst 3 relay records (from 2015) were broken.

After a day of close competition all Houses were eager to see who would be crowned House Champions for 2017. With the lead changing a number of times during the day the result was always going to be close. Despite Carroll House scoring an outstanding 840 Participation points it was the Competition points from Rosarie that got them over the line, adding to their Swimming Carnival win and taking the title away from Kennedy who had won the previous 3 years. Congratulations to all who participated in the true spirit of the event.

The annual Cross Country was held on Thursday, 7 April in beautiful autumn conditions. For the first time the carnival was held in the morning with the aim to give students the opportunity to run to the best of their ability. There were some outstanding team and individual performances as students completed various distances of 3, 4 & 6km. The commitment of students to the Cross Country has improved year-on-year, and it was fantastic to see so many students giving their all. It was a great day and a big thank you must go to the whole Mater Dei Catholic College school community for getting involved and making the day such a success.
