Maths Report

What a busy and productive year we are having so far in Mathematics at Mater Dei!
Our weekly Wednesday Maths Tutorials in the Glasshouse have been well attended by students of all year groups. Students from Year 7-12 have been bringing their questions from class and homework to go through with the Maths Staff available. In addition to Wednesday Tutorials, the Thursday Maths Tutorials in the Resource Centre for senior students only have been well utilised by our Year 11 and 12 students. We are expecting to see more of our Year 11 students in the next few weeks in the lead up to their Mid-Course exams.
A quick overview of assessment dates:
Year 11 and 12 students:
Year 11 Advanced and General: 2 hour exam in the Hall Monday 29 May
Year 11 Extension: 1.5 hour exam in the Hall Monday 5 June
Year 12 General 2: Study Book-Part II due Friday 5 May. Study Book-Part III + Test due in week 8
Year 12 General 1: Human Body Portfolio Due Week 9
Year 12 Advanced and Extension students: Assessments in Week 7, 8, 10
Year 7 to 10 students:

Year 7 and 8: Term 2 class tests are in their own classrooms during Week 5
Year 9 and 10: Term 2 class tests are in the Hall during Week 6
Otherwise, this term will see Year 7 move from Integers into Algebraic Techniques. Our Year 8’s are finishing off Pythagoras’ Theorem and Measurement before solving Linear Equations. The majority of Year 9 are finishing Algebra and will then begin to explore Trigonometry for the first time, whilst our Year 9 Advanced class are working on their advanced algebraic skills and techniques. Year 10 are currently working in the area of Measurement.
We wish our Year 11 students luck as they prepare for their Mid-Course Examinations. In the lead up to these exams, we encourage them to organise their time well by balancing study and after school commitments. Remember to utilise your teachers’ expertise and the afternoon tutorials. Your effort will be rewarded.
Year 12 students are entering their last term of assessments before the Trial HSC Exams in Term 3. General 1 Maths students are exploring Maths and the Human Body; heart rate, blood pressure, lung capacity and how to keep the body healthy. General 2 Maths students are finishing off their own personal study books with the last instalment due Week 8. The quality so far has been outstanding. Students are creating a great resource for themselves to help study for their Trials and HSC. Keep it up! Our Advanced and Extension students have also been very studious, honing their skills in some challenging topics: Probability, Motion and Integration.
