ConnecTED Learning
At the close of Term Two, students were immersed in an integrated unit for RE and English, 'The Search for Meaning'. During this unit, students explored literary devices and forms in both poetry and the Bible and used their understanding to compose their own poetry. Student poetry focused on a range of topics, drawing on the interests and experiences of the individual. Across Year Seven, over 500 poems were written, with each and every student reflecting on the process of writing, editing and sharing their work as part of the inquiry process of learning.
Here are some student Poetry samples:
This term, we continue with an English unit 'The Hero's Journey'. An exciting new initiative within this unit is the establishment of 'Literacy Circles' whereby students in small groups have begun reading and responding to a novel during MyTEd Lessons. Across Year Seven, six different novels are being read, these are:
- The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
- Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodda
- Bridge to Terebithia by Katherine Paterson
- The Giver by Lois Lowry
- The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis
- The Declaration by Gemma Malley
