ANZAC Day

ANZAC DAY DAWN SERVICE & MARCH
On Tuesday 25 April we were privileged to have a number of staff and students attend the events on offer to commemorate this ANZAC Day. For many the day began early at the Dawn Service at the Victory Memorial Gardens where our College Captains, Olivia Shaw and Tom Hallam read the Legacy Prayer. Many of us then regathered at the service at the War Cemetery on Kooringal Road where our College Captains then lay a wreath on the Cenotaph.
Later on in the morning all of the student leaders gathered for the Anzac Day March. The College House Captains were involved in the March down Baylis Street representing our College with pride and commemorating the many men and women who have fought and continue to fight for our country. Our College Captains, Olivia and Tom lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in the Victory Memorial Gardens followed by the Commemorative Ceremony. It was a moving day for all and we thank the many students who were able to be involved.

ANZAC DAY LITURGY
We assembled for our Anzac Liturgy on our first day back of Term 2. We commemorated that immortal day when young men of Australia by their deeds and sacrifices, demonstrated to the world at Gallipoli, Australia was truly a Nation.
Our College captain Olivia Shaw was fortunate enough to complete the Kokoda trek last year. Olivia talked to our College community in the liturgy about the significance of Anzac Day and how this year marks the 75th Anniversary of Kokoda. Students and staff then walked in complete silence from the hall to the flag ceremony at the flagpoles.
We have not forgotten and we are defined, at least in part, by the act of remembrance. It makes us who we are and reminds us, in the face of an unknown future, who we can be – courageous and compassionate, resolute and resilient, - a people of our own time, reaching back one hundred years with pride and solemnity, looking forward with a sense of purpose to a better world.
