From the Principal's Desk

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to our first Windang Wave newsletter for Term 2, 2022. I would like to sincerely thank all of our families for their positive response and support with the changing operational status of our school at the end of Term 1, due to the unsafe weather. It was not the way any of us wanted to end the term, however, the community response was outstanding and everyone’s safety was assured.

This term students have returned to school with positivity and enthusiasm. We are already off to a busy start, with all classrooms engaged in outstanding learning experiences. The sun was shining brightly for our Cross Country Carnival, and for the District Carnival, which is miraculous! We have fabulous new walkways and doors throughout the school, and more refurbishments are planned for this term to continue making our school safe, practical and engaging. Please ensure you check School Enews regularly so you don’t miss any important information throughout the term – as always, school is busy!

Staffing Update

As you are aware, Mrs Kocovska went on leave at the end of Term 1. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery just before the school holidays. I am so incredibly pleased to be able to share with you that her surgery went well, and she does not require any further treatment. This is fantastic news for Mrs Kocovska, her family, and for us as a school community. She will continue to be on leave throughout Term 2 to allow herself the time to fully recover. We can’t wait to have her back at Windang next term, leading our school with her bubbly spirit and proactive approach!

In the holidays, Miss Chapman celebrated her wedding, and returned to school this term as Mrs Christiansen! Congratulations on your marriage, Mr and Mrs Christiansen!

Miss Madison Dunn is a university student who will be completing her teaching placement with us this term, and again later in the year. She will be working in K/1 Kookaburras with Miss Kemp. Miss Dunn has already expressed how thrilled she is to be working at Windang Public School and is so impressed by how wonderful our students are!

Mr Al Young will be teaching 6 Chameleons each Monday this term, and Mrs Holly Bensley will teaching RFF.

ANZAC Day

On ANZAC Day, Mrs Barkley and I felt so honoured to attend Club Windang’s ANZAC Day March and Commemorative Service. We had over 70 students march with Windang Public School and their local clubs, with many family members watching proudly and showing their support for this significant community event. All students are to be highly commended on their presentation and behaviour, especially our School Captains and Vice Captains; Lachie, Ginny, Chase and Immy who proudly led our school, and respectfully placed the wreath on the cenotaph on behalf of Windang Public School. Congratulations to Indi M, Indi L, Lexie B and Scarlett C for creating beautiful artworks that were used on Club Windang’s ANZAC Service Program.

I am so happy to be receiving such positive community feedback on our school's ANZAC Service, which was held on Thursday 28 April. Our School Leaders did an amazing job hosting the service and all students demonstrated impeccable behaviour. A sincere thank you to our special guests; Club Windang's Vice Chairman, Col Jarrett, Lake Illawarra High School's Deputy Principal, Hannah Wiltshire, Michael Bainbridge, Former Special Forces Green Beret - 2nd Commando Regiment, and Glen Keedle from All Round Tree and Garden Care. Glen Keedle generously donated a Lone Pine to our school which is very special! The Lone Pine will be a special place to commemorate all those who have served Australia.

Windang Public School truly is an amazing place of learning! I am very proud to be the Relieving Principal in Mrs Kocovska's absence, and I can honestly say that I look forward coming to school every day! That is a reflection on how amazing our staff, students and families are. I am looking forward to an excellent term!
