Grade 3/4 Students

Celebrating our tremendous Threes and fabulous Fours !

3/4A - Mrs Bryant

In 3/4A, we have been expanding our vocabulary in Writing. We have learnt ten new words, what they mean, and how to put them into a sentence. They will stay on our desk for the rest of the week, and we will try to incorporate as many of them as we can in a future piece of writing.

We have also been enjoying the challenge of solving various worded addition problems in Maths.

3/4C - Mr Lewis

This week the students have been investigating different language conventions, including verbs, nouns, adjectives and adverbs. One of the activities involved them going on a word hunt through the text Matilda and looking for examples of each, as shown here in Nova’s example.

In Writing, the students were given onomatopoeia prompts to do quick sizzling starts. This is Piper’s example using the prompt SPLASH!

3/4D - Mr Mitch

During writing, we focussed our attention on creating captivating starts in an attempt to excite the reader. We looked at tension, humour and dialogue and the way in which they can be used to paint a picture in the readers mind.

This week, we commemorated the ANZAC’s by reading a short story about the landing at Anzac Cove. We acknowledged the remarkable courage of the ANZAC’s and what it means to uphold the ANZAC spirit. The students then completed a summary and an illustration.

3/4E - Miss Margarita

In 3/4E, we have started our addition unit and have been working hard to expand on the different strategies we can use. So far we have worked on doubles/near doubles, fact families, friends of ten, split strategy and jump strategy. We have also been drawing on our place value knowledge to apply these strategies when adding decimals and fractions too. Here are some impressive examples of split strategy.
