Bits & Bobs

Parents & Friends Association

Since 2020, the world has undergone significant change due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The impact on schools has been profound and less face-to-face interaction has had to occur between schools and parents. This has meant that for some time the John Paul II Parents & Friends Association (P&F) has been in somewhat of a hiatus. As Covid-19 restrictions are rolled back, we would love for the Parents & Friends Association to return with vigour. Fortunately, we have some very keen parents who would like to provide some new energy to the Parents & Friends Association. There will be a meeting next term.

If you are interested, please contact Kiri Van Duiven at jp2parentsandfriends@gmail.com or 0448849366. The Parents & Friends Association has a long and proud history at John Paul II Catholic School, and an exciting a new chapter is about to begin.

GRADE 5/6 CAMP - TERM 2

The Grade 5 and 6 major camp occurs in Week 2 of Term 2, from 10 May to 13 May.

The camp will be at Spring Beach Youth Camp in Orford.  This will be a wonderful learning opportunity for our students.  There will be many outdoor learning activities, as well as some enriching Aboriginal cultural experiences.

PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE - 10 BOOKS IN 10 WEEKS - TERM 2

All students at John Paul II from Prep to Year 6 are participating in the Premier’s Reading Challenge in Term 2. The challenge is to make reading a part of every day and read 10 books in 10 weeks. A large chapter book may count as more than one book. Students who have read 10 books are encouraged to continue reading and writing this in their Reading Logs, which will be handed out in the first week of Term 2. The Reading Logs should be returned to Mrs Jaeger in the Library in the last week of Term 2. All students who complete the challenge will receive a certificate from the Premier after the Challenge ends. The Challenge is a way to encourage students to develop a love of reading for life. As we get ready to move into our new library next year we will also have lots of great new books available for students to borrow.

NAPLAN 2022

Students from Years 3 and 5 will be participating in the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) 2022. NAPLAN Tests for Years 3 and 5 will consist of four different tests -  Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy and are scheduled to take place from Tuesday 10 to Friday 20 May.  Students from these year levels will be participating in some practice tests during the final two weeks of term.

Parents and carers are invited to use the public demonstration site to familiarise themselves with the types of questions and related functionalities available in the online NAPLAN assessment. Parents and carers can access the public demonstration site by using the following link:  Public Demonstration Tests

We do stress that NAPLAN is just one test on one day and it is a priority for us that the tests are run in a smooth and calm manner in order to avoid stress and we trust that parents and carers will support us in this endeavour.

If you have any questions or concerns around your child and NAPLAN please do not hesitate to make contact with either Lauren Hall or Alison Wightman or you can click on this link Parent & Carer giver Information.
