School Wide Positive Behaviour Support and Respective Relationships News

Behaviour Matrix development

Students, staff and parent representatives have been working hard redeveloping the CSPS Behaviour Matrix. The CSPS Behaviour Matrix has been developed to ensure behavioural expectations are taught to all students by all staff.  Positive acknowledgements are earned by students who show these behaviours. Procedures are followed when these behaviour expectations have not been met. Details of these procedures will be explained each newsletter.

School-wide positive behaviour support (SWPBS) is a framework that brings together school communities to develop positive, safe, supportive learning cultures.

SWPBS assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children. When SWPBS is implemented well, teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:

  • increased respectful and positive behaviour
  • increased time focused on instruction
  • improved social-emotional well being
  • positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
  • increased adoption of evidence-based instructional practices
  • a predictable learning environment with improved perceptions of safety and increased attendance.

Student Workshops

Monique Corcoran and Rachael Mazzaglia (social worker) recently conducted student workshops in Year 5&6 to unpack student survey data relative to student behaviour at school.  They focused on friendships, what is a good friend and what a friend should not do.

They then turned the attention to potential negative behaviours.  They unpacked the difference between being unkind, mean and bullying.

The anonymous and confidential feedback will be discussed with staff as 'patterns' and outlining further strategies we can implement to assist students feeling safe and happy at school.

Note:  The Year 3 & 4 students will participate in this workshop upon their return from camp.
