School Council President

Andersons Creek versus Anderson's Creek

The school commissioned a logo update during 2020 as part of our program of updating our marketing and communications strategy. We wanted something that was simpler and more modern but still reflected and honoured the old design featuring a poppet head with the school's name below it (or next to it in the horizontal version).

The initial redesign had an apostrophe in "Anderson's" as that is what the old logo has, as does most of the signage around the school.

As part of our research during the redesign, we realised that the school's actual name as officially recorded by the Department of Education and Training, as well as VICNAMES (the register of geographic names), is "Andersons Creek Primary School".

This makes sense given that it matches the creek and area we are named after, and we decided therefor that we should update the logo to reflect our actual official school name and remove the apostrophe.

It appears that the apostrophe gradually worked its way in to our school name and we will be gradually removing it as we update our signage, stationery and other branded school items.

You may still see the old, new (as well as the old, old) logo for a while yet - it's a lot of work trying to update everything when you don't have a paid marketing and communications department!

I promised a brief history lesson...so here it is. The change from "Andersons Creek Primary School" to "Anderson's Creek Primary School" and back again is by no means the biggest name change in our school's history.

The school officially opened on December 5, 1977 for the last two weeks of the year and was originally known as "Warrandyte West Primary School". This was apparently not a very popular name and the school was renamed sometime during early 1978 to "Andersons Creek Primary School".

Updated school uniforms

As part of the logo modernisation, we needed to update the logo on our school uniform and school bags. We took this chance to review the uniform and made two changes after consulting with the school community.

The first change was made to the girls' summer dress where we moved from the 'tunic-style' dress with a zip at the back to a more modern and practical design with buttons on the front. The new design also has a waist-adjustment to allow for a wider range of fittings.

The new dresses have been on sale since late last year (and the pattern is identical despite looking slightly different in the images below).

The second, and more major change, was made to the design of our polo top. The community voted to move away from the separate white and navy polo tops and to standardise on a single design as shown below (it will also be available in a long-sleeve version).

This has not yet been on sale as it is a completely new item and had to be designed and manufactured from scratch. Our uniform supplier, PSW, has just received delivery of the new polo shirts and the school has agreed to buy out the remaining old-style white and navy polo tops so the new design should be available for purchase from PSW by the start of term 2.

We are now waiting on the delivery of the old-style polo tops to the school and will be holding several sale days where we sell them at discounted prices (half retail price or less) in order to clear them out. The School Council agreed that we will not set a deadline for the new uniform to be compulsory, so you will be able to buy the old-style polo tops knowing that your child(ren) can wear them for as long as they like (or as long as the tops last).

We also added a new item to our range - a puffer jacket. We have a sample in the office if you'd like to take a look and we think it's going to be very popular for winter. It looks great, is hard-wearing and is very warm. The puffers are being manufactured now and will be ready for sale in time for winter.

Enjoy your weekend,
