Story Dogs Update

STORY DOGS PROGRAM
Story Dogs is a program for the Year 2s enabling them to practice their reading with the dogs and develop their fluency skills.
A volunteer attends and the child will read to the volunteer and their dog. This happens a couple of times a week with the Year 2 students.
This is a program that we have just started and we are hoping to continue for the whole year and into the future.
In fact, it would be amazing if we were able to keep this program going forever, for the Year 2s. We really want to make sure that the younger kids enjoy reading and are passionate about it.
The dogs that come in are trained to read with younger kids and comfort the kids when they are reading.
At the moment, we have four dogs who have started coming to school for sessions, their names are:
- Harvey the Labrador, who comes with his owner, Jayne
- Reggie the King Charles Cavalier, who comes with his owner, David
- Cooper the Golden Retriever, who comes with his owner, Silvia
- Sia the Labrador, who comes with her owner, Meera
We have even more dogs who are going to start their sessions next term; their names are Bertie and Henry!
Thank you so much to the volunteers who are dedicating their time to assisting the Year 2s with their reading!
