PREP UNIT OF INQUIRY EXCURSION
On Friday, 18 March, the sun was shining bright and the weather was a perfect 23 (ish) degrees... which was a relief for all the Prep teachers and their students, because they were going on an excursion around the neighbourhood of Murrumbeena!
They walked around a bit, but they also did some fascinating events and activities.
The Preps current Unit of Inquiry is ‘Where we are in Place and Time’, and it explores so many important things, like how communities are formed, different types of communities, why places are so special to people and what the responsibilities are to care for our community.
On the excursion, Preps were learning about our Murrumbeena community, including all the facilities and amenties in Murrumbeena, like playgrounds, shops, public toilets and the station. They strolled around the street close to our school, then down towards Boyd Park and back up to the train station. Hope they had some walking shoes on for it, that's for sure! But according to the Preps, it really wasn't that far to walk and their favourite part was going to the Post Office and delivering some letters!
The Preps discussed what they do to look after our community and shared some of the places in our community that are so special to them.
They also loved walking to the playground and playing on the monkey bars. They had lots of fun and saw so many people on their journey! In total, the walk was about 20-25 minutes long. After they came back from the station, they returned to school just in time for the end of the day bell and to have a quick chat about their trip.
The Preps would like to say "thank you" to their teachers and the many parent volunteers who accompanied them on their excursion. We would like to thank the Preps for letting us interview them about their very first official excursion!

YEAR 3 EXCURSION- CERES
The Year 3s recently went on an excursion to the CERES (Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies) for their Unit of Inquiry.
On Monday morning at 9:00am, the Year 3s got on the bus and went to CERES.
When they got there, they walked to a bench area and ate morning tea. Then they looked around for solar panels, hydro power and wind power.
After that, they played this game that was a bit like a memory tag. Then they played with small wind turbines and saw how the wind was blowing the wind turbine and it spun a full 360 degrees. Lastly, they did some composting to end their excursion.
The Year 3s went to CERES because they are learning about fossil fuels and that we need to recycle and not use any non-renewable resources.
They also found out about global warming and that fossil fuels are a danger to our environment, so they suggested we use things that are reusable and good for the environment. They discovered that we need to plant more trees so that it can stop global warming.
They thought it was really fun to go there and also loved to learn about electric cars. The Year 3s said if everyone got electric cars it would be easier for people to live and electric cars don't pollute the air or use fuel. They also saw the first ever solar panel that was used in Victoria, too!
Then, at the end of the day, they got on the bus and arrived back at school and did a reflection on what they did and learnt.
