$20 Boss Program

During term 1 & 2, students of Woodman’s Hill Secondary College all year 9 students will be participating in the $20 Boss Program. 

We have recognised that enterprise skills are crucial for preparing students for the future of work. In response we have decided to run $20 Boss. This is an immersive learning program for building the enterprise skills of young people that has been developed by the Foundation for Young Australians (FYA) and is backed by The Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Financial Literacy Australia. 

The program gives students $20 of start-up capital to create, launch and operate their own venture over the course of a school term. Students will learn key elements of entrepreneurship and are taught how to make money and create social good.  $20 Boss is aligned with the National Curriculum across English, Economics, Business and Mathematics as well as being mapped to Foundation and Intermediate level VCAL. 

Businesses that make a profit are asked and encouraged to repay the original $20 of start-up capital, plus an additional $1 'Legacy Donation' back to the school at the conclusion of the program to keep the program sustainable and serving as many young Australians as possible. 

Students participating in the program will be eligible to apply for the $20 Boss State and National Awards, and be considered for FYA’s Unleashed Awards that celebrate youth-led innovation and social entrepreneurship.  Cash prizes and prize packs will be awarded to winning students 

To ensure an authentic learning experience we ask that parents and guardians do not contribute money to their child's enterprise and instead provide support by: 

● Promotion of your child's idea, prototype or business products in the community 

● Networking with friends or family who are small business owners and securing                        mentorship 

● Responding to requests for help or advice
