What's on in English

We certainly are deep into the final weeks of the school year, but that doesn’t mean we are slowing down in the English department. With plenty planned between now and the start of end of year activities, we are sure to be left with much to report on by the end of 2021.

Our Year 7 students have been working on their film analysis for the Pixar movie Up! Through multiple rotations with our three Year 7 English classroom teachers, students have been able to work with a breadth of lesson styles and types of feedback in preparation for their final assessment.

Year 8 students have delved into their creative writing unit, with students having worked in rotations for their genre study, narrative task, and their up-coming oral.

In Year 9 we have been steadily working towards finishing their film techniques assessment, with their film analysis unit on The Truman Show.

The Senior School students have recently been studying a range of text and media in their units on Comparative Pieces.  Year 10 students based their analysis on Elie Weisel’s novel Night and the film The Power of One, while the In Year 11, students studied Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird and Clint Eastwood’s Invictus. Both year levels are currently studying for exams.

The Dressmaker by Rosalie Ham and The Crucible by Arthur Miller was what Year 12 students studied in 2022. They are relieved to have recently finished their English VCE Exam and end their English education on a high note.

While expectations are high at Scoresby, our students find ways to rise to the challenge and thus end the year with the same excitement as when they started. We can’t wait for the next year of English and hope that the rest of the year brings you luck, health and joy.
