Principal's Report

Welcome to this edition of our newsletter

The Department has announced that schools can now recommence a broader range of activities, provided they are consistent with community settings and school vaccination requirements. This means that we can now:

  • hold assemblies (consistent with community density limits)
  • conduct our Year 12 celebration after the completion of their exams, on site
  • plan for camps and excursions, commencing with excursions to KIOSC this term
  • deliver the full range of curriculum programs
  • conduct transition programs for Grade 6 students transitioning to Year 7 in 2022 on site
  • conduct information evenings on site for parents/carers who are double vaccinated
  • have the return of some visitors onsite subject to vaccination status.

We have been able to avoid any cases eventuating on site, and I thank everyone for your patience whilst restrictions have been in place.

Student Success

It has been rewarding being back on site with students, especially to catch up with them face to face. With the easing of restrictions, we have been able to come together for small group assemblies to publicly acknowledge student success. Congratulations to students highlighted in this newsletter who have won competitions or received awards.

World Teachers Day

On Friday 29 October Scoresby Secondary College celebrated, World Teachers’ Day.  Our teachers provide learning opportunities for our student’s way well beyond the expectations required.  They continually work to support students to experience learning growth so they can improve their outcomes. They undertake professional learning and continue to work to improve their practice. Several days a week our staff work collaboratively in professional learning. The efforts of our teachers are not always acknowledged, but the rewards they experience in supporting students to achieve success are priceless. On behalf of all the students, parents and carers, I thank our fantastic team of teachers for always giving their best to make Scoresby Secondary College a quality educational provider.

Lead School Status

Scoresby Secondary College has been a lead school for the past few years. As a lead school we are recognised for best practice and support other schools. Currently we are the Department of Education and Training lead school for the Respectful Relationships Program and Student Voice and Agency.  Recently we were announced as the lead school for Professional Learning Communities (PLC’s).  Professional learning communities (PLCs) are an approach to school improvement where groups of teachers work collaboratively at the school level to improve student outcomes. “Building a PLC is a proven way for schools to increase student learning by creating a culture that is focussed on continuous improvement by linking the learning needs of students with the professional learning and practice of teachers” DET 2021. I commend our staff who participate in PLCs after school focussed on literacy and numeracy improvement. It is this work that has led once again to student learning growth in NAPLAN and multiple student excellence awards.
