A message from the Coordinator

Welcome back to another exciting term at John Wollaston OSHClub. We had lots of fun over the holiday period with our Vacation Care program. This term we have some great weekly themed programs planned.

We have had a recent change in staffing with Elly leaving to pursue other career opportunities. We have welcomed some new families and are always ready for more to join us.  Kindergarten Orientation will be held soon and we encourage you to pop in for a chat or alternatively please call on 0478 182 404 or email at johnwollaston@oshclub.com.au.

Thank you to all our families for your ongoing support. The feedback has been positive and our service recognised for its great work.

Thank you.

Denise

OSHClub News

Our Vacation Care program was a huge hit over the School Holidays, with maximum attendance each day and children enjoying some great incursions and excursions. A dance instructor taught the children how to breakdance before they were able to show off their new moves at a neon disco party later in the day.

We ventured out to the Swan Valley where the children visited Pasta in the Valley Restaurant. They made their own egg pasta, putting it through the machines to create thick or thin pasta to take home. Following the activity, they enjoyed a delicious lunch of spaghetti bolognaise, cheesy pasta or lasagne!

We had a lot of fun on Crazy Hat and Crazy Sock Day with a number of interesting and colourful creations on display. Children wore their craziest, most colourful socks for the day and made hats from recycled materials before participating in a fashion parade. We spent the afternoon using odd socks to create sock puppets for the children to play with and take home.

On Monday 4 October our service became a circus showground. The children spent the day making circus tents, juggling balls and playing carnival games in the undercover area. In the afternoon they performed their very own Circus Show from acts they developed earlier in the day. The audience were treated to popcorn while watching the show.

We also spent a day at the new Boola Bardip Museum in the city. The children had alot of fun learning about Australian culture through the interactive displays and reading about our history. In the afternoon we set up our own displays around the playground of different things the children had to find and document on a worksheet.

All the children became outdoor warriors with a trip to XLR8 Obstacle Course. They climbed, ran and crawled through a dry obstacle course a few times before the sprinklers and hoses were turned on to make a wet course! The children then completed the course again, becoming a muddy mess as they went through puddles and pools of water. This was a great day out with muddy faces and big smiles saying it all!

On our last day, we had a silent disco incursion. The children loved dancing around and following the dance instructions whilst wearing their headphones.

Term 4 has started with the children learning about nutrition and turning themselves into superheroes for Superhero Week. They have also been learning the importance of conserving water in National Water Week and about birds in Bird Week.

Our Sustainability Club is up and running for this term and the girls have already planted vegetables for us to enjoy for afternoon tea later this term when they have grown.

We have more exciting weeks coming up with a special event taking place on Monday 1 November. Bookings are essential if you would like your child to attend on this day. Please contact the service on 0478 182 404 for more information.
