Welcome Back!

by Helen Freeman, Principal

At long last, we welcomed our Foundation children back to school on Monday after an extensive period of remote learning. The children’s happy faces as they saw their teachers and friends was a wonderful sight. Amazingly, the children settled in very well to their classroom routine very quickly and all had a perfect first day back.

Just as exciting has been the Year 1 & 2 children returning today and the Year 5 & 6 children returning to school tomorrow. Our once empty school will be full of happy and enthusiastic children ready to get back to learning in a normal environment once again!! Next week we see the return of the Year 3 & 4 children on Tuesday with everyone returning on Friday 5th November.

Thank you for all your hard work in supporting your children during this most difficult time. We understand the enormous pressure this put on many families, but we only have a few more days to go until the children will be with us full-time. You’ve all done an amazing job supporting the teachers but most of all your children. THANK YOU!

Family Entertainment

There was magic in the air last Friday night with our very successful Family Fun Night with magician Anthony De Masi. It was wonderful to see that 172 families logged in to this amazing night of entertainment. It was so uplifting not only to have a laugh, enjoying the magic tricks but to watch the expressions on the children’s faces as they marvelled over the magic being performed.

Science Talent Search

Recently, we had several students receive awards for their participation in the 2021 Science Talent Search. There were several different sections that the students could enter. The overarching theme for this year was ‘Food Different by Design’ The students receiving Bursary’s have been invited to attend a virtual presentation on Monday 8th November to receive their medals and monetary prize. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Evans for encouraging and supporting students with the Science Talent Search, she has done an amazing job.

Moving from Syndal South

Understanding that all our Year 6 students will be heading off to Secondary School in 2022, we need to know as soon as possible if any other students are leaving us. If you could let the Office know as soon as possible that would be greatly appreciated. Plus, if you know of anyone looking to enrol at Syndal South Primary can you please encourage them to do so as soon as possible.

Congratulations!

Tennis Victoria recently asked the Victorian Tennis community to nominate worthy applicants for consideration for the 2021 Victorian Tennis Awards.  From all accounts the quality of the nominations was so strong that selecting finalists was an extremely difficult task for the voting panels.

In saying that, not only have Syndal South Primary School been selected as a finalist, but we have also been chosen as the Winner of ‘Most Outstanding School.’ Go Syndal!

Curriculum Day - Monday 1st November

This day is traditionally used by teachers for semester two reports. Schools will receive advice from the Department regarding reporting expectations, as the extended period of remote learning will present some challenges. As this is a curriculum day, there will not be any onsite or remote learning. TeamKids will be running a program on this day. Foundation students and students eligible for onsite supervision are permitted to attend Team Kids as they are the students who would have otherwise been at school on this day. Just a reminder that Tuesday 2nd November is Melbourne Cup Public Holiday, no onsite or remote learning on this day.

Facilities Upgrade

As you all know, Syndal South Primary School was very excited to have been allocated $4.26 million from the State Government earlier this year.  Phase 1 of Syndal South Primary School's Master Plan is now in the architectural stage.

Here are a few images to give you a sneak peek.  More information will be available to the community in the coming weeks.
