Music
Welcome back to term four! I cannot wait to get back to face to face teaching and see you all in 3D again! Throughout term 3 there was a focus on cultural music and instruments along with composition, rhythm and beat. These skills will be brought into term four learning and developed further along with some new skills. These new skills for term four include reading sheet music, transferring their knowledge of sheet music to instruments such as the piano and creating more complex compositions on the stave (5 horizontal lines).
Prep
Throughout term three, Prep students developed their knowledge of rhythm and beat. In term four, Prep students will work towards matching pitch (high or low sounds) by learning new songs. They will focus on sounding the same as the singer or the musician playing their instrument. Prep students will also begin to learn how to respond to music and explain what they like about the music and why they like the sound of it.
Year 1
During term four, year one students will continue to develop their knowledge of notes with some new notes being introduced. They will use this knowledge to create more complex rhythms using all note types. The students will then perform their rhythms with a steady beat and explain the features of each note used. Students will also begin to use the new notes that are introduced in their rhythms and learn to explain the features of each note.
Year 2
In term four, year two students will continue to learn about bar lines and times signatures and how they work together. They will also apply their knowledge of rhythms and notes to create a rhythm or melody using a time signature and bar lines. Year two students will also begin learning the letter names of the notes (A, B, C, D, E, F) when they are written on the stave (5 horizontal lines) in preparation for writing their own simple melody.
Year 3
In term four, year three will be learning more of the piano and hopefully be receiving some in class experience on the keyboards. They will learn short simple songs and learn some facts about the composer’s life and achievements. Students will work on broadening their knowledge of form (structure) in music and begin to apply it to their own composition. These compositions will then be performed on an instrument of their choosing.
Year 4
In term four, year four students will consolidate their knowledge of how to write music on paper using the stave (5 horizontal lines). They will explore the different elements required in every piece of written music and how they help the musician play the music. The students will also perform their compositions using as many of the elements of music that were covered last term as they can. When performing their composition students will ensure they are keeping the beat steady and the audience is showing correct audience etiquette.
Year 5
For term four, the year five students will work together in music to create their own class song. Each student will use a variety of instruments to help them create a part of this song. Before returning to school we will be focusing on learning how to write music on paper so that each class will have a written copy of the music to perform. The students will be given the choice to work either individually or with a partner to create their section of the song.
Year 6
Term 4 will be a very exciting term for year six students with their graduation fast approaching. In music we will be working on choosing and learning their graduation song. Once back at school we will be rehearsing their chosen song in their class grades and trying to incorporate live music played by some students into this song. The students will also be working on transferring their knowledge of sheet music onto the piano.
