Visual Art

Hello superstar artists! This term we are doing a combination of learning from home and at school. I am very excited for all of the art learning tasks this term, and look forward to seeing your amazing creations.

Prep

In term 4 students will work towards designing and creating a t-shirt that will be used in their end of year celebrations. They will reflect on all they have learnt in their first year of school and transfer this understanding through pictures. Through this process they will develop their painting skills and understanding of using a paintbrush in different ways.

Year 1

This term learners will learn about creating patterns with collage inspired by the artist Alma Thomas. At school students will investigate the fundamental skills when creating art using clay. Throughout the term they will develop a deeper understanding of the different techniques that can be used when creating sculptures using clay, with a focus on creating texture.

Year 2

This term students in year 2 will be learning about creating 3D characters through the creation of Puppets. Whilst at home students will use materials available to create their own puppet characters. When on site learners will be inspired by the Artist Tiffany Lange to create puppets using textiles. Their hand puppet will represent the characteristics of their chosen character through the use of colours and symbols.

Year 3

Throughout this term students will create art using 3D techniques. Whilst at home students will create their own food sculptures using materials at hand. When returning to school the learners will deepen their understanding of sculpture through the creation of a 3D turtle. They will learn the skills required to work with clay, especially the slip and score technique.

Year 4

Throughout this term, learners will be gaining a deep understanding of colour theory with a particular focus on mixing colours. Learners will investigate mixing tints and shades and creating a value scale with acrylic paint. Learners will then transfer this knowledge to the creation of an artwork heavily focusing on the use of tints and shades.

Year 5

Throughout this term, learners will be investigating the process of designing and creating. Through the use of sketching and mood boards, learners will understand how designs can adapt and change before the final product is produced. Students in year 5 will transfer this knowledge with the design and creations of their clay marine animal and develop their skills in handbuilding throughout the term. Learners will be challenged to learn new techniques and deepen their understanding of the purpose of a design process.

Year 6

This term learners will be transferring their knowledge of light reflection taught in their inquiry unit in the form of a 3D Artwork. With a focus on patterns and angles, students will be designing their own 3D sculpture that will reflect and refract light. Throughout this process students will deepen their knowledge of pattern making, sculptural techniques and the purpose of a design process.
