St Patrick's College Christmas Appeal Reminder

All presents and hampers for the College’s Christmas Appeal need to be handed up in Homeroom this Friday 26 November. All boys in the school should know who they are collecting for so hopefully all of us can make our hampers personalised and special. No tinned food or used items. Please think about what you and your family would like if you fell on hard times, and this was all you were getting for Christmas. Get the boys involved, wrap the presents and start to feel that spirit of Christmas grow in each of us and our community as we ‘give to the poor in handfuls’ at a time when its needed most.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.

SOL Service Special Recognition

‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’ (Matt 25:40)

After this past year of action and service, it is time to reflect on all we have achieved for the common good. Like the seeds sown in the field, some have grown while others have died away, and many others took the opportunity to flourish and thus achieve an Extra Service Award. I commend them for their efforts and encourage them, and everyone, to seek to serve others, not for glory but for the joy and love it brings. Nonetheless, I acknowledge today all those students from Year 5 to Year 10 who have gone above and beyond in a disrupted year.

The Br Chanel Powell Awards will be presented at cohort PCPs, while the St Mary of the Cross and Blessed Edmund Rice Awards will be presented on stage at Speech Night.

Congratulations to all the boys below and all boys who put their heart into their service throughout the year.

“Just as water reflects the face, so one heart reflects another.” (Proverbs 27:19) These young men have reflected the heart of Christ. We pray it ripples across the community so all may be young men of honour and integrity, as we all work to build a better world for all.

Festival of Carols and Readings

In an ordinary year, tonight would have been the College’s Festival of Carols and Readings – one of my favourite nights of the year! It is a night we often start to feel the true essence of Christmas come alive and it fills your heart with joy. The Choir captivates us, and Year 7 set the scene for the seasons we move into. Sadly, this event is cancelled for this year, but I mention it, so you mark it in your calendar for next year and remind yourselves now of the waiting in the soon to be Advent season, and the joy of the Christmas season. If you get to hear beautiful carols take a moment to sit and simply feel them, and if you can look at the readings in the lead up to Christmas please do so. Christmas means so much more when we prepare for it.

St Merkorious Charity

St Merkorious is one of our wonderful justice partners at the College. Over the past few years, we have developed a wonderful relationship and our boys have done great work with and for them. Many of our Year 10, soon to be Year 11, students will serve at St Merkorious over the holidays and throughout the following year. I encourage any adults looking for a way to volunteer to consider giving them a go, and other students are welcome if not on the same day as our senior groups.

Thank you.
