Co-curricular - Senior Sport

From the Head of Secondary Sport

The St Patrick’s College Annual Invitation Swimming Carnival will be held this Friday night, 26 November at Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre. It will be a great opportunity for the squad to blow out some cobwebs and perform together as a team for the first time this season. Unfortunately, no spectators can attend the Invitation Swimming Carnival due to venue restrictions of a maximum capacity of 250 people in the stands. We wish Mr Brennan and the squad all the best for Friday evening.

This Saturday 27 November, the 13s, 15s and 17s Basketball Trials will take place at Netball Central, located at Sydney Olympic Park. No spectators can attend these Basketball Trials and I remind students that they should travel to and from the venue wearing their full College Sports uniform, consisting of the Supporter’s shirt, black crested shorts, white socks, and sandshoes (College tracksuit in colder weather). The First V Basketball squad will play a trial fixture against Blue Mountains Grammar School at Auburn Basketball Centre. Only players’ parents/carers who are fully vaccinated may attend this fixture as spectators (no siblings).

Weather permitting, this Saturday the First XI and Second XI Cricket sides will play an internal match on Breen Oval, with some NDJCA Cricket teams also having scheduled fixtures. Please note, at this point in time, both parents/carers and players’ siblings can attend these Cricket fixtures, with the understanding that they maintain social distancing and adhere to protocols which can be found on Team App.

Congratulations

Congratulations to Lachlan Weir of Year 10 who won the Carnarvon B-Grade Golf Championship, and for the second year in a row, claimed the Junior Championship Title. Lachlan is now eligible to compete alongside fellow SPC student, Luke McSweeney, in the NSW Junior Championships commencing in December. All the best to Lachlan and Luke as they prepare to compete in this future tournament.

In late October, Jack Dwyer of Year 11 was named in Water Polo Australia’s Paris and Beyond squad. Jack has been identified as an athlete who has demonstrated potential for future national representative opportunities in Water Polo. The squad selected will be reviewed on a regular basis in the lead up to working towards the 2024 Paris and 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Gaining selection is a great acknowledgement for Jack’s talent and we wish him all the best on his path to wearing the Green and Gold of Australia.
