Principals Message

Student Leadership 2019

Congratulations to the School Leader nominees who presented their speeches to the children and staff yesterday. I was so immensely proud of each and every child. They spoke maturely and with conviction.

The manner in which they spoke was outstanding as was the support shown by our parents. Our 2019 School Leadership Team will be announced on Presentation Day. The nominees are; Hannah R, Lily S, Joshua M, Mia B, Tyler Mc, Covelle J, Victoria W, Tahlia M, Jaxon M, Samuel B, Zavier G and Sienna K.

LED Sign

Thank you to our P&C for their support of our new LED sign.  I have received information for the Department of Education and the tender process is nearly complete.  The time frame for installation of our sign is early 2019.

Gulangfest

It was with great pleasure that I attended Gulangfest on Thursday night.  It was a wonderful celebration of culture and our children were super impressive.  Each year it is getting better and is a not to be missed event.

Your opinion matters...

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

As part of our ongoing school evaluation, students and teachers will complete the Tell Them From Me survey.

We invite our parents to complete the short survey also. Please help us make this great school even better. Your feedback counts and is important to us. Please click on the link to start the survey:

Thank you for being invaluable partners in learning.

Online Safety and Education

As part of our teaching and learning programs, we are consistently educating our children about how to be safe online. While the internet, online gaming and a wide variety of social media apps are able to provide an array of experiences for children, it is also important to consider the dangers that they may be presented with. We often have parents who share their concerns about online safety and material their children are finding whilst browsing the internet at home. We always recommend two websites to help provide information for parents with concerns.

The ‘e-safety’ and ‘think u know’ websites have great information and resources for parents to help their children understand their concerns.

The parent sections to both of these websites can be found at:

Attendance is the Key!

Parents can you please support us with delivering these messages to your children at home. Research has identified that excessive absenteeism, regardless of its nature, will eventually impede a student’s ability to reach his or her academic potential. It has been calculated that if students miss as little as eight days in a school term, by the end of primary school they will have missed a year of education! Regular school attendance will help your children to succeed in later life. Attending school every day makes learning easier for a child and helps children to build and maintain friendships with other children. If your child doesn’t learn the basic skills in the early years of school, they may develop learning problems in later years as key foundation knowledge is missed. This is especially critical in Mathematics and English.

We appreciate your support with this.

It is getting warmer...

As the weather continues to warm up can I ask that our parents ensure all children bring the appropriate school hat.  Teachers do take the weather conditions and appropriate hydration into account when planning outdoor activities but wearing a hat is essential.
