Prep News

Prep P had a terrific first day of school. Check out the pictures below.

The Preps have settled into the structure and routine of school and have loved getting to spend time with their buddies. We read a beautiful story together about celebrating our differences and made some paper echidnas with our buddies.  

Congratulations to all the Preps for reaching 10 days of school! We met Zero the Hero this week who showed us the importance of the number 0 and we can’t wait to see him again when we get to 20 days of school.

Term 1 Key Learning Areas

Writing:

- We will be learning about the Writer's Notebook

- Handwriting (pencil grip and fine motor skills) 

- Jolly Phonics

- Finger spelling

- Recount writing

Reading and Viewing

- 5 finger rule and choosing just right books to put in our personal book boxes

- We will also be learning what CAFE is and starting our Classroom Library

-Accuracy and comprehension reading strategies to help decode and understand the text

Speaking and Listening

- Weekly oral presentations focused around our inquiry, 'All About Me'

Mathematics

- Number sense-recognising, naming, counting and grouping numbers 0-10 and beyond

- Understanding and making patterns

- Ordering the days of the week

Wellbeing and Social Skills

- Making friends and working together

- Bucket Filling

- Mindfulness (self-regulating our emotions and behaviour)

Independence

- Following the morning routine (independently changing readers in the morning, giving notices to the teacher, getting ourselves ready for the day)
