Friday lunch orders

Our kitchen garden program has now been running for six successful years.  Our students, staff and volunteers have been involved in growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing organic, seasonal and delicious food during this time.

Our Friday lunch order process of ordering in pre-prepared food does not, on the whole, reflect our school's values of nutritional fresh food and sustainability.  With this in mind, we will be making some changes to the Friday lunch order menu.  From term four week one, our school will no longer stock the chicken flavoured noodles packaged in styrofoam  containers and dim sims.  These two items will be replaced by spaghetti bolognaise and chicken strip salad wraps.  The spaghetti bolognaise and wraps will contain significantly less artificial colours, flavours, additives and preservatives and will be prepared by Mrs Cosgriff and our wonderful volunteers at school.  The new menu items will also contain more nutrients for our students and will be sustainably packaged to keep our waste to a minimum.

Due to the extra work involved in preparing this homestyle food, the cut off time for Friday lunch orders will be Tuesday’s at 9.00am (a day earlier than the current cut off time of 9.00am on Wednesday’s).  Please mark this in your calendars now as this change will take place in term four week one.

Café 1739

With much excitement, Café 1739 opened this week and it has already proven to be a much-needed and welcoming space to gather as a school community.  Food will be available during term four.

Café 1739 will be open tomorrow from 8.00 until 8.45 for staff orders and from 8.45 until 10.00 for our school community with takeaway orders only from 9.45.  Due to our commitment to sustainability, we will not be using single use disposable coffee cups, you will need to provide your own for takeaway orders.

Students ordering in the morning must order a takeway beverage to ensure that they are in class on time.

Cashless beverage cards are available from the office now with a choice of five or ten beverages.  For this week only purchase a five-beverage card and get one beverage free or purchase a ten-beverage card and get three beverages free.

Foundation Musical Play - Term Three!

I would like thank all of the parents and families that attended Foundation Musical Play last Wednesday.  It was wonderful to see the joy in the children’s faces when building instruments and making music together.  We thank you for your active involvement and participation in the session and look forward to offering this opportunity for all Foundation families in Term Four.  Thank you to those families who provided positive and kind feedback about the sessions.  Having support from the community means the world to both the staff and the children and ensures that we keep providing these wonderful opportunities.

Footy colours day (re-run)

Friday, September 20th is the last day of term as well as being walk to school day and footy colours day.

The students are invited to wear their footy colours to school on the last day of term.  In return, we ask that all students bring some coins (any denomination) on the day to raise money for the Ballarat Regional Integrated Cancer Centre (BRICC) and associated Wellness Centre.  BRICC helps support cancer patients within the Ballarat and Grampians region.  The “A little change can make a big difference” campaign will help BRICC to break the Guinness world record for the longest line of coins along with assisting many local cancer patients.  At school, the Junior School Council will collect the coins in football teams and line up the coins to see which football team has the longest line of coins.  In turn, we will donate all coins brought to school to BRICC.  The children will also be involved in multi-age football activities on this day.
