Across the Principal's Desk

Are you a responsible adult – and linked to your child’s school?

It is one of the most important roles in parenting, and that is to be connected, engaged and involved in your child’s education.

That looks very different from household to household, but isn’t it on us as adults and parents to be informed of what’s happening in our child’s school community?  You have choices, make some good ones for your child’s sake.

Ignorance isn’t bliss, ignorance is actually neglectful and certainly no excuse!

If you aren’t connected via Sentral (hence, the ‘one-off’ hard-copy of the newsletter this week to capture all parents/carers) it’s up to you to get connected.  If you’re not connected to School Interviews, i-Newsletter or See-Saw, again, it’s up to you…

Please inquire at school to gain support – we have offered repeatedly, possibly online, where it’s not reaching the needy!

Please take the initiative and adult approach to being connected and do it now.

If / when you experience difficulties, please let us know so we can arrange a time to meet and resolve your technical concern or issue – we want to help…

Our staff work tirelessly to provide crucial information and support your child to have the best learning experiences all year round – please support us in gaining the best and most efficient results by being connected.  That is all I ask :)

To be an engaged and inclusive parent in our community, you need:

Sentral;

i-Newsletter

See-Saw; and

School Interviews.

That’s all…!

Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences were held yesterday at the school from 12noon – 7:00pm.  I would like to extend my thanks and congratulate the family groups for attending these vital meetings with teachers.

Numbers were down on previous years from around 90% last year to 75% this year.  We are still hoping to see a number of families in the near future to make up for absences yesterday.

The meetings are essential for a collaborative and supportive approach to learning for children in their formative years with meta-analysis providing evidence of the link between school and home being an essential ingredient to success.

Final Day of Term

Our final day of term 3 for 2019, is this Friday 20 September.  It is a huge day on our school calendar.  Thanks to our JSC for their preparation and organisation for the day.

Firstly, it is Walk to School Day – pertinent information will be sent home and is consistent with previous Walk to School Days.

It is also “Footy Colours Day”.  Students are asked to dress in their favourite footy colours from any code.

JSC are asking for coins to be donated to raise funds for BRIC.

Finally, we will have a whole school assembly at approximately 9:10am with 2:30pm dismissal.

Before & After School – parent role

Students are to arrive at school daily for an 8:45am bag bell, to enter classrooms.

Students are to be gathered from school at 3:20pm following the bell.

Students are supervised by yard duty staff from the aforementioned times daily.  Supervision prior to or after those times is the responsibility of parents / carers.  Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the care and supervision of children in the grounds outside those hours.

There is an announcement made daily at 3:35 to conclude supervision by teachers.  Students are expected to make their way to the Administration area (as requested in the announcement) of the school if they haven’t already been collected by parents/carers.  Students who aren’t collected or notification hasn’t been received by the school, may be supervised following 3:45 at our Out of School Hours Care service, incurring the usual fees.

Please Note: students who play on playgrounds before & after school on any school day are to play on the identified playground suitable to their Year level. Ie Foundation students only on the front playground (Dundas St end).

Baby News

I’m excited to announce to our school community, Miss Laura (Rm 18, Yr3/4 teacher), Patrick and Theodore, welcomed the arrival of Henry Paul James on Monday morning 16 September.  Henry weighed in at a healthy 4.968kg or 10lb 15oz in the old measure.  All are doing well!

Also, Mrs Johnston (Rm 5, Yr 1/2 teacher) and Nick welcomed their first child, Evie Belle on September 2.  Both mum and baby are doing well too!!
