LITERACY

Our Reading Workshops this term have allowed us to explore different types of poetry and the way poetry is structured. We have engaged with Classic Australian poems like Waltzing Matilda and Mulga Bill and have compared this with contemporary poetry. We explored a variety of different Dreamtime Stories and had the opportunity to learn more about Indigenous Culture through these texts.

We have also been using different types of poetry in our Writing Workshops and have created different poems such as rhyming couplets, snapshots and concrete poems. We have included lots of ‘WOW words’ and describing words in our writing to make it more interesting and have practised brainstorming rhyming words.

Our Phonics sessions have focused on using our reading and spelling tools to decode words. This has helped us to develop our reading fluency.
