From The Classroom
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships
In 2018 Boroondara Park Primary School, started our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) journey. Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships is a Government initiative to promote and model respect and equality. The RRRR Program was developed as part of the National Action Against Family Violence and has now become a core component of the Victorian Curriculum. The Royal Commission into Family Violence identified the critical role that schools and early childhood education play in creating a culture of respect and therefore the impact schools can have to change the story of family violence for future generations.
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships is a whole school approach embedding a culture of respect and equality across the school community. RRRR is underpinned by evidence that shows schools can play a key role in preventing family violence by helping students develop an understanding of healthy relationships and respect. Educators are supported to teach our students how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. This approach leads to positive impacts on students’ academic outcomes, mental health, classroom behaviour and relationships with teachers.
This year we continue to implement the RRRR curriculum across the school. We will be spending 50 minutes a week before either Assembly or Care, Learn and Share to implement the program. The learning materials cover eight topics of Social and Emotional Learning and are designed to develop students’ social, emotional and positive relationships. Whilst the topics are the same at each year level the learning becomes more complex and age appropriate as students move through the school. The RRRR program is assessed in the Victorian Curriculum areas of Personal and Social Capability and Health and Physical Education.
The topics covered are:
Emotional Literacy
Personal Strengths
Positive Coping
Problem Solving
Stress Management
Help-Seeking
Gender and Identity
Positive Gender Relations
We have attached an introductory document for your information.
During our RRRR journey this year, we will also undertake a range of initiatives, tasks and professional learning as a staff, student and parent community so stay tuned!
