Senior School

From the Head of Senior School

Homeroom in Senior School is a wonderful way to start the day, whether you are in Mrs Henderson’s group who have decided to plant some herbs and gift them to our Hospitality classes, or Mr Hughes’ group who relentlessly try to improve their performance on the daily Wordle challenge.  Mr Ruggera’s group celebrate milestones such as passing driving tests and Ms Couper’s Homeroom measure growth in terms of students’ height over their time in Senior School.  Each Homeroom is its own community and I love watching how the personalities in the room shape the feel of each group.

On Monday, following the latest round of COVID advice, we had to change our Homeroom structure.  To reduce students mingling across cohorts as much as possible while they are at school, we have separated them into Homerooms with their own year group. Each House still meets in the same location but in year group classes rather than mixed classes.  We also reallocated lockers so that the Year Ten lockers are quite separate from the Year Eleven lockers.  Given my first paragraph, this seemed like a sad thing to do but in true COVID-times style, the staff and students accepted the directive, moved rooms and lockers and have already started creating their new Homeroom communities.  I wonder what these new communities will look like and feel like in a few weeks’ time … I’ll let you know!

VET Hospitality

It’s been fantastic watching how the VET Hospitality students involved in practical tasks work effectively in teams. This week the Year Elevens arrived at class in their chef uniform, learning how to follow industry standard recipes so they can produce and present a range of appetisers.  The Year Twelves made espresso coffee for staff, then served iced coffee, iced chocolate, and iced chai to order for their cohort of peers.
