Year 5/6 Inter School Lawn Bowls Competition

Year 6

Sophie

On Wednesday the 17th of March, a large group of Year 5/6s went on an outstanding journey to the Beach Side Division Lawn Bowls. We warmed up our legs by walking down Glenferrie Rd to the Caulfield Park Lawn Bowls Club, who generously opened up the venue to everyone and hosted the fantastic event. When we arrived, everyone jumped onto the green and started warming up. By then everyone was ready and we were off. Every single person there tried their absolute best and hardest all throughout the day. We all improved dramatically throughout the day, from the very start to finish. In the end our teams came 4th and 7th. At the end of the day we were even rewarded with a snow cold ice cream from the amazing staff of the Caulfield Park Lawn Bowls Club! Everybody had a splendid time and I know all the people who went will definitely come back next time!

On Wednesday the 16th, 25 Year 5 and 6's went to participate in lawn bowls at Caulfield Park. We were split into sides, Team B and Team A. They both had 3 teams each. Each team had a lead and a skip. A lead is the person who bowls first, and a skip is the person who stands at the other side of the field and directs their teammates. The skip also bowls last and keeps score of the three ends. We played against three other schools: St Mary’s, St Patrick’s and Christ Church. We played 6 rounds including both St Joseph’s teams playing each other. Our team (Team B) won 4/6 rounds. St Joseph’s A came 7th and St Joseph’s B came 4th, they were so close to making it to the beachside division. We all tried our hardest and all had fun, we are so lucky to have participated in this!

On Wednesday, we went to the lawn bowls, it was a really tiring but very fun day. We walked to Caulfield Park to begin the day. I was a skip in one of the team A’s. I kept track of the score and supported my friends. I really enjoyed playing. I personally think lawn bowls is really fun and I would do it again! We sadly won’t be getting to the next level, but we all tried our best and had a good day!

Elisa, Cleo, Christine and Grace. YEAR 5

Crouching down, getting ready to bowl and you release! Crossing your fingers in hope to get it right next to the little white ball. Then you take a step back watching it getting slower and closer to the white ball.

We were at Caufield park lawn bowls participating in the tournament. Then we went inside and set our bags down and went outside to practice. Some people have a bye, and the others had to start the game. There was a lead and a skip. The lead had to start every time we played, and the skip had to measure which ball from each school was the closest. After they measured everyone's ball, the skip would have a go.

There was quite a variety of rounds to do and then in the middle we got to have a lunch break. There was about 3 different schools there. There was a combination of 5’s and 6’s in the lawn bowls. Some people from year 5 and 6 did not go. Since there were a few too many people, each school had to split into a team A and team B. We all had a really good time and enjoyed it a lot. We hope to one day do it again, and even though we didn’t win we still really loved it.
