Year 6 enjoy a taste of Secondary

Last Friday, Year 6 students had the opportunity to experience life in high school at the Year 7 'Taste 'n' See' Experience Day. Our current Year 6 students, along with 12 students from other schools, experienced Year 7 classes for part of the day. The students really enjoyed the percussion and emotional orchestra session with Mr West, making lava lamps and watching an 'explosive' science experiment with Mr Terlich and tangle art with Mrs Stewart. The Experience Day culminated in a yummy sausage sizzle with students and their parents.

'Last Friday 11 March, we had our Year 7 Taste 'n' See Day. We did various subjects like art, music, and science. In my opinion, art with Mrs Stewart was the best subject of the day. She made me want to be in high school more than ever to be able to do art with her. We grabbed a black piece of paper and some gel pens in many colours. We started off with a white outline of either your name or a landscape. I personally decided to do my name in bubble writing. It was a great day overall. I can't wait for high school!'  Enya T

'It was finally Taste 'n' See! I was excited and scared at the same time. I had no idea what was going to happen but it still sounded fun. I was in the blue group.  We first went to the MPC for music. We all had to make noises with our mouths depending on what our emotions were. I was with Indigo and Ebony. It was pretty fun. After that we got to play with boomwhackers, that was definitely my favourite part. The song we played was ‘You are my sunshine’. I have heard that song before so I knew what it was like. I had a really good day.' By Chloe S

'At the Year 7 Taste 'n' See Day we had a great experience as Year 7 for a day and an activity my group did was science. The 'honourable Mr Terlich' led us through our lessons. We learnt about density and hydrogen. We learnt about how hydrogen has less density than air and how the more dense a fluid is the further it will fall to the bottom of a cup of mixed liquids. We experimented with the logic of how a fluid will sink below a less dense fluid and made a lava lamp. So overall I am very excited for high school and definitely going to enjoy Mr Terlich's class next year. Taj C

Four go 'splish, splash' at Primary State Swimming

On Monday 7 March, four NCS students from Years 3-6 made their way to Blacktown Aquatic Centre for the annual CSSA Primary State Swimming Competition, as part of the South Coast Zone team.

Jada B and Luka C each had a single race in 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke respectively, events that they both shone in. Both girls swam three seconds faster than their times at the zone event! All their extra training obviously paid dividends, so well done, girls!

Thomas HS and Will P both had three events each, 50m and 100m Freestyle and 50 Breaststroke. Thomas managed our school's highest finish, an overall 12th place in 50m F/S finishing in a very impressive 36.84, which is extremely close to his zone time. Will also impressed in his 50m F/S, shaving 38/100 s of a second off his already speedy zone time, to finish in 46.41. Well done, boys!

All four of our representatives gave it their all and we're so proud of their achievements in the pool during the 2022 season. A huge THANK YOU to the parents of our four students, who drove their children to and from this event in some of the most trying weather conditions we've experienced in many years. Your commitment to your children's sporting endeavors is both admirable and very much appreciated.

Congratulations to Layla, Grace and Michael.

Grace and Joseph have all the right moves

Two siblings from NCS, Grace and Joseph P, recently entered a two day Taekwondo tournament. It ran across the weekend of 5-6 March, 2022.

This local martial arts tournament was located at a new indoor sports centre. Joseph helped out as a volunteer on the first day and practised with Grace in a training class, along with two world champion 'poomsae' competitors. On the second day, Sunday, they both lined up wearing their full uniforms.

Eventually, they were called out after a long time waiting and watching for several hours. Grace went first and performed well enough to win a silver medal! Woo hoo! She reflected afterwards:

'It was not physically exhausting, but mentally it was hard to remember the pattern.'

Then it was Joseph's turn, as he competed in the men's aged 15 to 30 division. He managed to win a Bronze medal. Hip hip hooray!

'I am really happy that I did my best, especially against all those older men!' Joseph said later.

Superb job, Grace and Joseph! We are very proud of your outstanding achievements. Maybe some more of our NCS teachers, parents and students might come along to see you compete next time. Let us all know when and where it'll be and we'll make sure some of us make it!
