Percentage Cup Championships!!

A delayed start to school, floods and a rescheduled Championships still could not stop our girls!!!

What a mighty effort from our Under 12 to 17 year + girls, truly amazing! We had girls in all but two relay events thanks to so many girls coming on board last minute to swim for the Green, Gold and Blue!!

Team Clayfield College shone through last night with some outstanding individual results, but more so, just a gritty team effort. Well done to all girls. We are so very proud of you. Thank you also to those girls who have been attending training and were unable to compete last night. You have still helped the team develop and get to this point again.

Clayfield has now won the percentage cup three years in a row which is a testament to our swimming program and culture set by Head Coach Alex Webb and assistant coach Renata Hasell. Our coaching team do a fantastic job keeping the girls motivated and in the pool.

Thank you also to our Swimming Captains and their families for their great servant leadership and commitment, especially in preparing the countless pasta meals for each meet and for the day of the Championships. I know the girls LOVE these meals and are very grateful for the tasty meal prior to each event.

Thank you also to the Clayfield College staff who gave up an evening to come along and support the girls or act in an official capacity at the championships. To our Clayfield officials, Elizabeth Stoneley, Sam Lennon, Suzanne Stainforth, Tina Mills, and Chantal Carter, thank you! In assisting with the team or student and staff spectators, thank you to Paul Yarrow, Tim Opstelten and Audrey Fellowes. Finally, it was great to see Dr. Andrew Cousins cheering with our girls and watching poolside as our girls swam their hearts out.

Thank you to all the parents who supported the College by getting your girls to early morning training sessions and picking them up after the meets. Your support of the College and our sporting program is key to Clayfield’s sporting success. I know that our girls felt well and truly supported all around, and as such, they performed so well.

Clayfield’s amazing Tuckshop Dream Team

Where would we be without our amazing tuckshop crew, Sharon, Julie and Tania who put together some amazing dinner packs for our staff attending QGSSSA Swimming last night! Staff were treated to a delicious selection of foods – including freshly baked muffins to keep their energy up for such a big event! Thanks Ladies!

Friend of Sport – Helping set our sporting culture and sense of community

A huge thank you must go out to the Friends of Sport for their continued sports support here at Clayfield. From cooking BBQ’s to preparing pasta meals to funding the team breakfast and whole school swimming break-up, we thank you! Our students truly appreciate all we do to enrich their sporting experience here at Clayfield, and what you do to assist with that is invaluable. For any parents wanting to find out more about how to assist, please come along to the first meeting of the year next Thursday, 23 March, at 6:30 pm in the College Boardroom.

National Day Against Bullying

This Friday 18 March is the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. Statistics show that one in five students report being bullied. Bullying can happen in person or online and can be obvious or covert. The impacts of bullying on student wellbeing are far-reaching and long-term; from feelings of isolation, loneliness and sadness, to mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, to increased risk of self-harm and suicide-related behaviour. Intervention is important for everyone involved, including bystanders.

Kindness is a key element for bullying prevention and encourages acceptance, inclusiveness, and a sense of belonging. A culture of kindness promotes positive relationships, increased empathy for others and deeper connections. The theme for the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence for 2022 is Kindness Culture. On Friday, we will invite students to participate in a kindness challenge, where they will reflect on what it means to be kind and how they demonstrate kindness to others. Students will then be encouraged to action their ideas throughout the day.
