Principal's Update

Hi everyone,

I hope you’ve all been well.

Writing Purpose and Audience

Over the course of this year, we want to continue to engage our students in writing and make them see that it has an important purpose in their lives. Writing is a valuable skill that we use in all areas of our life. Quite often, students don’t have an audience to write for and fail to see the value in writing. This is a problem that schools face right across Australia and the world. When students write for an authentic audience, this motivates them to do their best work.

Our school has made contact with a few local businesses in the area to help with this problem. At the end of our writing units, one lucky student’s piece of writing in every class will be chosen to be displayed in these local businesses windows around the town. We have ordered one frame per classroom that can be stuck on a window for people to see. This will put writing up on a pedestal and will hopefully create some excitement around writing. This also gives our students a possible audience to write to. We want our students to love and be engaged in writing to help improve their abilities. Further to this, we want to ensure we celebrate every classes efforts internally at school twice a term.

From all at CPS, thank you to Hungie Fangs and Ambience who were the first two businesses to agree to help us out. By the end of this term, we will have our first piece of writing in these shops so you can go down, have a coffee, have a read and enjoy some of our students’ stories. If any business in the community would like to help us out by displaying some writing, please call the school and let us know.

Swimming Sports

Last Friday  we held our annual swimming carnival at the Tocumwal Pool. The kids had an absolute ball and it was a great feeling nearly being together as a whole school. This is something that we have definitely missed during the COVID periods. All students gave their best efforts on the day and the students need to be commended for their attitude and behaviour.

Congratulations to the winning house Rose House and our Age Champions:

Parent Teacher Interviews

Parent Teacher Interviews are coming up on Thursday 10th March. The interviews will be held via phone and will be an opportunity to hear how your child has started the year. You will be able to book a spot on Compass in 10 minute intervals. If you’re unable to attend on this day, please make contact with the school or your child’s teacher and you can book an alternate time. If a child sees parents, carers and teachers working together, this has positive outcomes on student success.

Remember my door is always open if you ever need anything. Have a great week!
