Harmony Day 2022

Monday saw all the Year 1/2 classrooms involved in Harmony Day activities.

We started our day learning about Harmony Day and why it is important to all Australians. Students explored what diversity means with respect to people.

We made connections in Reading to 'Anh's Story'. She and her parents were born in Australia but her grandmother was born in Vietnam. The story was about the special food that families eat and its connection to their ancestors. We wrote our own  'Story' using the family tree and information that each student had brought to school. In Maths we graphed the flags of different countries.

The highlight of our day, though, was meeting in Kim Barne Nitje to learn 'We Are One'. We sang it in English but also in Yarawu language. We then learnt to sing in Auslan. Our thanks go to Amelia for teaching us. We thoroughly enjoyed singing and signing!
