Miners Rest Primary School - Sports Week

Coming up next week is a huge week of sports. Children have been involved in Physical Education and sports classes developing their skills and capabilities for the week. House Colours are to be worn to both of the events…

Please note that the canteen at Llanberris will NOT be open on Tuesday 29 but we are hopeful that there will be a coffee van in attendance.

Tuesday 29th March – Tabloid Sports (Foundation – Year 2)

11:00 – 12:40

Key Focus – The Tabloids Sports are designed to introduce our students to the varied skills and techniques required to participate in our senior Athletics Program. It is an age appropriate developmental program that is engaging and fun. The activities will be run on the day by Ballarat High School students. Having the Foundation – 2 students at Llanberris will allow the whole school to experience the day together, creating great house spirit. These sports are for participation, engagement and fun.

Tuesday 29th March – Athletics Sports (Year 3 – Year 6)

10:00 – 2:30

Key Focus – The Senior School Athletics sports is a competitive athletics day where we celebrate both participation and competition. Students are in their year levels and earn points for their house colours. The students will be involved in events such as discus, shot put, long jump, triple jump and sprint events. High jump has already been completed at school before the event and the results have been recorded. Circular team relays are run at the end of the day for selected students. All students who are not running in the 800m event at 9:00am are to catch the bus from school to attend this event, but may depart with parents/carers after the day has concluded.

Year Level Champions (2 per year level, a boy and a girl) are determined by utilising a standardised scoring system for each individual event:

Firstly – by the highest point winner in each year level

If students are tied on points

Secondly – a countback is conducted based on the number of 3’s they have achieved

If students are tied on 3’s

Thirdly – a countback is conducted on the number of first places they have achieved in field and running events

Wednesday, 30th March – Ball Sports (Foundation – Year 6) & Age Group Presentations

9:15 – 12.00

Key Focus – Ball Sports day is a carnival of fun and colour with students being involved in at least one relay event. The events consist of tunnel ball, spoke relay and shuttle relays. Fun, participation and a whole school event is what the teacher’s and organisers focus on. It is also great to see house captains helping to organise the day.

Presentations of year level champions and winning house is made shortly after the relays are concluded.

In the case of inclement weather on any of the aforementioned days, a decision and subsequent notifications will be made on Sentral. Please avoid calling the school office as no news will mean good news😊.

We look forward to your attendance throughout the week.

Kind Regards Katherine Donnan and Miss Wood
