Clean Up Brentwood Day

The Green Team has been given an opportunity to participate in many fantastic events and programs, including the Clean Up Brentwood Day and Introduction to Plastic Oceans Australia this week. The team is extremely grateful to be able to participate in these events and programs so we can expand our skills, our connections, and our experiences. 

The Clean Up Brentwood Day occurred on Friday the 4th of March in period 4 as part of a wider initiative, Clean Up Australia Day. A team of 23 Green team members walked around the school with support of staff and collected all general waste and recyclables that we could find. We were happy to see significantly less litter left in the school yard this year and hope to see this decrease even further. We would like to thank Ms. Thapliyal, Mr. Ballagh for joining the Clean Up event and helping the students.

Plastic Oceans Australia

The Plastic Oceans program is an international initiative to reduce the amount of plastic waste that is ending up in waterways and oceans by reducing the amount of plastic used/produced. Brentwood was nominated for this program by a student at John Monash Science School and has accepted, meaning that we are now part of the program. On Wednesday the 9th of March, two representatives of the organization visited our Green Team and ran an introductory session, teaching us about what the organization is, what it aims to do and how we can be involved. Our goal after this session is to reduce our soft plastics waste at the school this year, which will be hard work but an incredible achievement.

Old Textbooks Recycling

Brentwood has recently sent 50 boxes of old textbooks for recycling through James Bennett, which would otherwise have gone into a bin. We appreciate the initiative and support from the college librarians, Ms. Clark, Ms. Thien and Ms. Mckeddie in making this program a huge success.

Recycling at Athletics Carnival

Students and staff can earn house points and free drinks for returning the recyclables generated at the athletics carnival to the Green Team stall.
